Zahn
[Read the article: Zahn to Rumsfeld questioner: "How much of an ax do you have to grind?"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Bush's and the GOP-controlled Congress' polls are tanking every week. It should tell Zahn and her ilk that they are on the losing side. Yet, none of the media figures seems to realize it. Is the Kool-Aid that powerful?

Jackson's Faux - Pas
[Read the article: An apology from HUD secretary, but for what?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"But if Jackson doesn't really "believe" that government contracts should be awarded based on one's political views, you'd think maybe he'd come right out and say that -- or at least say why he was saying the opposite until members of Congress started calling for his head."
The answer to that is that he obviously awards contracts based on political affiliation, which is illegal. He put his foot in his mouth, and is now furiously backpedaling. He is not fooling anyone.

What Gives?
[Read the article: Secret Service releases Abramoff logs, but where are the rest?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Why do you even ask? Did you really expect the Secret Service to be candid about releasing the logs of Abramoff's visits to the White House?
When was the last time the Bush Administration complied with the laws of this country?

Another Bush
[Read the article: Because the third time's a charm]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Not to worry, our lovely President will soon proclaim himself President for life of the United Banana Republic and anoint brother John Ellis Bush, a.k.a. JEB, as the likely successor.
Time to move to Canada!

Presidential Trash
[Read the article: National security? It's in the trash]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Why does the Presidential trash hate America? What with making itself available to terrorists and all...
-
Mary
[Read the article: Mary Cheney and the F-bomb]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Mary is a Cheney. What else needs to be said? She may have chosen an "alternative lifestyle" but she knows where the $$$ are. Genes do not lie. Hers are particularly bad.

Silence is Golden Indeed
[Read the article: Pelosi: Impeachment is "off the table"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Why those premature pronouncements?
First and foremost, the Democrats should focus on regaining a majority in Congress and reestablishing the oversight function of Congress over the Executive. Our institutions are badly damaged. First, win Congress back, then work at making the U.S.A. a functioning Democracy again. Then, if time permits, impeach the Decider. The important thing is that if the Democrats regain control of Congress, they will be in a position to neutralize Bush and his gang. I can live with Bush until January 2009 as long as the Democrats clip his wings from November onwards.

Maverick -- or panderer?
[Read the article: Maverick -- or panderer?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Do you even need to ask?
McCain is kissing the ass of the American Taliban. McCain has declared himself in favor of the total ban on abortion that the South Dakota legislature passed a few months ago.
That's enough for me.
It is high time that people see him for what it is: an arch-conservative Rrepublican and a political whore.

In Iraq, the next six months are always critical.
[Read the article: And tomorrow is the first day of the rest of your life]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Just keep saying it, you'll eventually be right.

U.S. News says Cheney thinks the CIA is weak on Iran.
[Read the article: On the WMD beat, everything old is new again]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]They are getting ready to attack Iran. All the signs are eerily reminiscent of what went on in the year preceding the invasion of Iraq. Cheney is at it again. Learn something? Not the old warmonger.
In the meantime, would someone care to explain why the Administration would start negotiations with North Korea on a peace treaty in parallel with efforts to dismantle the country's nuclear program (see today's NYT), but seems intent to bomb the heck out of Iran?
Could it be this pesky three-letter word again? O-I-L?

Opus Dei
[Read the article: "The Da Vinci Code"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I was brought up in Europe in a Catholic country. Everyone in Catholic Europe knows that the Opus Dei is a right-wing secret society. The Opus Dei supported the fascist regimes of Germany and Italy during WWII and has supported every right-wing regime in Latin America and elsewhere ever since. It is blatantly anti-semitic.
The Opus Dei is bad news. I have had the misfortune to meet Opus Dei members. They are not pretty human beings.
The Opus Dei is very wealthy, hence powerful.
I am not surprised that the Catholic Church is up in arms about the book and the movie.

"unsettled"
[Read the article: It depends on what the meaning of "unsettled" is]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Bush is so oblivious that he is scary. He is truly demented.
-
Conservative Epiphany
[Read the article: Sex, drugs and a federal government small enough to drown in a bathtub]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Skepticism of government? Check.
Traditional values such as work ethics, honesty, dignity, and integrity? Check.
Oops! I am a conservative!
What are THEY?

The Heart of the Matter
[Read the article: A new low in political advertising?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Yet another Republican show of class...
-
Hayden is not a good choice
[Read the article: Don't punish Hayden for Bush's sins]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I do not dispute the fact that Hayden has the inherent skills for the position. For once, Bush is not appointing an incompetent hack.
However, Hayden is a military man, hence, his loyalties will be with the Secretary of Defense and the President. He has already shown that he is willing to lie and cover up for both.
There are no reasons to believe that Hayden will show any independence from the Pentagon and the White House. If he dares go against the will of either, he will be promptly booted out.
Given the Administration's record, any WH appointee is suspect, and should not be given the benefit of the doubt under any circumstances.
This Administration does not tolerate dissent in any shape or form. It won't change until Bush, his cohorts, and his Congressional GOP clique are thrown out of office.

A Dignified Gravestone
[Read the article: The billion-dollar gravestone]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Ii read a letter from a NY Daily News reader that suggested a simple and sober memorial to the victims of 9/11: a reflecting pool and a low wall engraved with the names of the victims.
As a New Yorker, I think it would be a great idea. Keep the memorial simple and dignified. Its emotional impact will be stronger the simpler it is. Just like the Vietnam memorial is in Washington.

The Da Vinci Code and the Catholic Church
[Read the article: "The Da Vinci Code"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Where were these conservative critics when scandals erupted all over the world that revealed the rampant pedophilia among Catholic priests?
Once again, conservative critics have their priorities mangled.
-
The NYT's obsession
[Read the article: For the Times, another gutter awaits]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The NYT is getting ready to go into full underwear-sniffing mode as the Democrats' chances of regaining control of Congress increase. Expect more of the same. Do denounce it, however.
The war in Iraq is taking Iraqi and American lives everyday, yet the NYT explores the Clinton marriage on its front-page? Que pasa?

Delay's backers embrace Colbert's faux Fox shtick in a fundraising message
[Read the article: Colbert feels the love -- from some confused Tom DeLay supporters]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]These people are truly stupid!
