A Lesson in Democracy from Israel

The U.S. could take a democracy lesson from Israel. Many Israeli are furious at the way the war against the Hezbollah was conducted. Many of those who vocally expressed their frustration are reservists who just served.

The result? Barely three weeks into a cease - fire, Amir Barak, the Defense Minister, has authorized an investigation into the handling of the war. Now, that IS democracy at work!

The Israeli government -- on the whole -- is not demonizing critics of the war. No one in Isreal likens critics to "Nazi appeasers", "terrorist lovers", or "slavery supporters".

Just saying... The Bush administration, which professes such respect for "our freedoms" would be well served to take a leaf out of the "Israeli Democracy Handbook". When the Israeli population screams, the government listens. When the U.S. population screams, the government attacks its own citizens.

This said, if this is the Rove tactic for November, it will backfire. You cannot repeatedly insult a majority of the population, and impugn its integrity and patriotism, and expect said majority to vote for you.

As ny grand - mother used to say: " you don't catch flies with vinegar".

Original article: Quote of the Day

It is high time that we kick Bush's "sorry mother fucking ass" all over the U.S.A.

Nothing more to add to the headline. That creature is unfit for office.

Ay-Dyu-Kation

Why are you so mean with the Educateror-in-Chief? He just read "three Shakespeares" and a short novel about some French guy in Ageria killing an Ay-rab for the heck of it. He knows all about Ay-Dyu-Kation.

legal defense

"...increasing numbers of CIA counterterrorism officers are signing up for a government-paid insurance plan that would pay their legal defenses -- and judgments that could be entered against them -- in cases involving allegations of torture or other misconduct."

"government-paid", i.e., funded with taxpayer money. That is rich indeed. Now, we are going to have to pay fo the legal defense of people who possibly broke the law by engaging in torture or misconduct in oor name? In Washington, life imitates satire on a daily basis.

I'll second your post, Orbitboy

Joe uses the old MacCarthy technique (duted and refreshed by the Rove machine) of setting up strawmen only to knock them down, of making ad hominem attacks.

Joe contributes nothing, not even material that would elicit a good laugh.

Let's ignore him. He'll go repeating the WH talking points in some right-wing echo chamber.
