Bush, Cheney, Libby, and Rove, probably all agreed that Libby would take the fall. Fear not: Bush will pardon Libby if he is convicted, and Cheney will find him a multi-million dollar job with Haliburton.
Neither Bush nor Cheney will come clean. Nor will there be a major house-cleaning in the Administration. Look at who is now replacing Libby: Addington, a vicious partisan of secrecy and of absolute Presidential power.
This gang is not about to relinquish power. Like all dictators, Bush and Cheney will dig their heels in until they are thrown out by forces bigger than themselves.
In the long-run, it is best if the Democrats do not fight Alito's nomination, and concentrate instead on the corruption, lies, lack of ethics, and abuses of power, both in the Administration and Congress.
If the Democrats focus on Alito, they will again play into the hands of the Administration and Congress. The latter want the focus off Libby's indictement, and its wider implications for Rove, Cheney, and Bush.
Don't let them win. Be relentless. The country needs accountability, and it is high time that the thugs running the country get their come-uppance.
Finally a sign that the Democrats are regaining a spine!
Why is it that no one is pinning him to the board and force him to answer?
The "no comment about an ongoing investigation" routine has gone on long enough. Bush's feet should be relentlessly held to the fire.
He did say, that anyone "involved" in the CIA leak would no longer be welcome in his Administration. Rove is obviously involved, hence, he has to go. Bush must be made to put his money where his mouth is. Now!
How long are we going to tolerate a liar as President? Enough already!
"It's a shame so few people on the right could be bothered to actually watch the show so they could form their own opinions instead of simply mouthing the opinions of those with even fewer brain cells."
The rightwingers are neither able nor willing to form their own opinions. They latch on to whatever reinforces their prejudices and insecurities. By definition, they are either uncapable or willing to separate the wheat from the shaft.
At least, Tomlinson is off the board, and quite publicly, too. The rightwing nut who is replacing him at the head of the corporation needs to be kept on her toes, though, lest we get "intelligent design" programs shoved down our throat.
What is it with the NYT and the WP that they run such a story? Are they on the Bush payroll? Or is it that the editors at those so-called beacons of liberalism really believe that their readers' average I.Q. is in the double digits?
Of course, Rove got a standing ovation from the Federalist Society members. Hussein, too, used to get standing ovations from his loyalists.
And, of course, Rove's supporters will describe his behavior in flattering terms. Did Tariq Aziz ever called Hussein a "murderous maniac"?
Enough already. Someone ought to tell the NYT's and the WP's editors to stop insulting their readers' intelligence.
Scalia is a cheap political hack (or is this redundant?)
His behavior begs the question of why Supreme Court justices should be appointed for life.
No CEO is appointed for life in this free-market, free-thinking society. So, why should anyone in the judiciary be appointed for life?
Why is it that there is a "welfare" mentality in the appointment of Supreme Court justices?
Scalia -- the best buddy of Cheney -- can rant all he wants. He seems to forget, however, that he is being paid by the American taxpayer. He was appointed on the assumption that he would be intellectually honest.
His record certainly speaks for the fact that he is a Republican shill.
So why should the taxpayer subsidize such a person?
Jean Schmidt's idiotic and offensive comments about Murtha just sums it all up.
Republicans are desperate.
Now,what is the solution?
Women put their health at risk through pregnancy and delivery. They also forfeit part of their careers -- or all of it -- (if they have one.)
Men do not put any of the above in jeopardy.
They should not be allowed to force a pregnancy on women, no matter how well-intentioned they are about providing for the child.
It would amount to treat women as simple vessels to carry a child. At worse, it would be procreative slavery.
I am glad that at least some senators are up in arms about the Patriot Act after the revelation that Bush played fast and loose with our Constitution.
That is not enough, however. The Bush administration is clearly out of control and needs to be reined in.
There were no good reasons for Bush to allow spying without a warrant. The law allows spying on communications as long as a warrant is obtained within 72 hours of the spying. This gives the government a lot of latitude.
Even if Bush thought that the law was too restrictive, he could have asked Congress to amend it or repel it. He did not. He could have asked the courts to have the law amended or repelled. He did not.
Bush committed a criminal act by decreeing that illegal spying was allowed. He also disregarded the Constitution by not consulting the legislative and the judiciary branches of power. Yet, he swore to uphold the Constitution of the United States.
Bush is guilty of high crimes and misdemeanor. He should be impeached.
Bush's behavior is now akin to the behavior of a despot. This country is fast falling into a tyranny.
What can we do to stop this?
I no longer believe that elections will do the trick. It has now become obvious that the elections in 2000 and 2004 were rigged. By the time 1998 comes around, Bush and his cohorts may have figured out how to get rid of the second term limit, and he will be up for -- rigged -- reelection.
The U.S. is now becoming a totalitarian regime. Help!
Much of the initial coverage about Fort Hood turned out to be wrong. Is there anything wrong with that?
The accountability imposed by another country for the CIA's kidnapping and torture reveals much about our own.

The Maine fight was supposed to be the dress rehearsal for repealing California's Prop. 8 -- but gay marriage lost
