Larry Flynt Leftist Hero

"December 1978, child pornography distribution still being legal under USA law[25], Hustler published photographs of naked children as young as three-years of age in sex scenes alongside an article, "Children, Sex and Society," advocating an end to age of consent, calling for acceptance of adult-child sex, and legalization of incest. In February 1975 in an article entitled "Adolescent Fantasy" an uncle is photographed sexually with his niece. October 1976 a naked girl scout is photographed soliciting sex in August 1981, a nude young girl, photographed with her dollies, saying to the viewer; "You would be surprised what a 'little girl can do. ..." Flynt published a recurring cartoon called Chester the Molester, written by Hustler editorial cartoon director Dwaine Tinsley, which depicted molestation of children. In May 1984 Tinsley was found guilty of sexually abusing his daughter. Tinsley had contributed 145 Hustler cartoons of violent child kidnapping and rape. [26] Upon his release from prison, Tinsley was rehired at Hustler."

That's just the tip of the ice berg from his Wikipedia entry http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_Flynt#Politics I think if you look a little closer you'll find the racism in gool-ole-Larry's publications.

Oh,and in 1984, he briefly ran for U.S. President as a Republican

If this creep is liberal I'm switching sides.

Promoting a Police State

Don't you know you're throwing POC under the bus by supporting the Police State?!?!?!

http://www.alternet.org/reproductivejustice/81260/

Who do you uppity white women think you are acting all entitled to safety from rape and thinking you deserve legal recourse if you're assaulted? What an out-of-touch upper-class problem to focus on.

Svutlov

You say it's Palin's fault and the Republican party's fault that Hustler (i.e. Larry Flynt who is a raging hatemonger) chose to objectify Palin in a porno. But Hillary and Condoleeza Rice also had "cameos" in the flick. Is that their fault? Is it because Hillary wore that lowcut top that she was "asking for it?" Is the first black, female Secretary of Defense fair game for objectification because she's cute?

You didn't address Clinton or Rice

They created images that were too good for the porn industry to ignore??

Svutlov, please

scroll back to page 5 or so of the comments and read about how Flynt pushed child pornography and completely repealing the age of consent. I copied and pasted it directly from the Wikipedia entry on him. Seriously. Read that and tell me that you still think he was a pioneer. Raping children is not pioneering.

Original article: Prostitutes before pimps

Would you tell a homeless person to stay homeless?

Jail might not be the answer to prostitution, but consider the similarities between people who work the streets and people who are homeless:

Both suffer larger than average rates of mental illness and chemical dependency.

Both live higher-risk lifestyles (legalization cannot make prostitution less risky than other professions).

Both are stigmatized.

The difference? No one would ever suggest that the best thing for a homeless person might be to remain homeless. That would just be stupid.

As long as the person is either homeless or prostituting, their mental health and chemical dependency issues will remain and they will be at higher risk of STDs and assault.

Why am I not surprised that you do your field research in a bar?

FYI, overconsumption of alcohol is pretty solidly linked to diminished sexual function. Sorry to ruin your buzz.

Palin / Hillary = Blowup doll / Nutcracker

Palin is/was the perfect polar opposite to Hillary, and the treatment she got is the perfect example of the double bind women in the public sphere are in - if you're smart and capable you get nutcrackers made in your likeness. If you're cute and nonthreatening (except to other women who value their reproductive rights) then you get called Caribou Barbie.

Fox will treat her like a fluff piece the same way everybody else did. I think the system that gives us these two dichotomies to choose from as women is sexist.

Original article: Spitzer gets off

Since we're all using bad puns

Screw Spitzer and screw the agency.

I hope the poor b*****s who worked there find something to do that doesn't reinforce the stereotypes of women being good for nothing but sex or baby-making.

Svutlov, I'm telling

the G-ess that you publicly defended Larry Flynt, and you're gonna be in trouuuuuuuuuu-ble.

Original article: Disney girl gone wild?

Remeber Paris Hiltons "leaked" sex tape

that made her (in)famous, and was almost certainly 'leaked' for just that purpose? How about Dustin Diamond's "leaked" tape? Does anyone here really think those pictures weren't deliberately published in order to help her transition from Disney celebrity to pinup celebrity?

Also, it's not so much the naked pics that are tasteless as the fact that she's only one degree of separation from Kim Kardashian. Anything she does looks extra skanky in that light.

Olbermann is the worst kind of sexist

He's the kind who fits into an otherwise progressive mold, but undermines women from within what should be our base of support.

The O man called Elton John and Katie Couric "the worst people" for SUGGESTING THAT SEXISM EXISTS and might have been in evidence in the primaries. Like, say, in the way Olbermann and his buddy Chris Matthews yukked it up about the "woman problem." Nope, no sexism there, nosir.

Original article: The Obamas on "60 Minutes"

Not thrilled

I'm bummed that Michelle seems to be bending over backwards to ensure that no one thinks she might have any ambition to do anything as the First Lady. And of course we're all bending over backwards to keep the 'rivalry' between Hillary and Barack going.

So, to recap, "good" First Lady Michelle in going to be Mom-in-Chief and "bad" former first lady Hillary is the enemy who Obama needs to keep an eye on. What part of this am I supposed to like?

Original article: R.I.P. Playgirl

You mean the 3rd wave didn't invent enjoying sex?!!?!?

There was a "feminist response to Playboy" in the '70s?!?!!? You'd never think it to hear younger feminists talk about how the older generation was solely concerned with reproductive rights. To hear some people (who weren't around long enough to know) tell it, no one thought about getting off until the younguns showed up on the scene.

Self fulfilling prophecy

As soon as I read Helen talking about how women all can't stand eachother, or whatever, I was immediately overcome by a sensation of not being able to stand her . . .
