After you cut through the "baby" haze you're left with two very central timing questions. Why did she lie about the dates of the affair and why is she thinking about telling him now?
She told him about the affair, after she found out she was pregnant, but lied about the dates and then waited and waited and waited until just before she gives birth to think about dropping the whole truth on him.
Call me cynical but I think she lied about the dates in the beginning as a manipulative ploy - like - "What kind of man would leave his pregnant wife even if she cheated on him? After all, that was before and the kid is his, right?"
Now, after waiting until not only she, but HE, is at his/her most vunerable emotional state, after he's had months to think about becaming a dad, he's "thinking" about telling him, she lied about the dates and the soon-to-born-kid might not be his. After all, "what kind of man would leave his pregnant wife who's just about to give birth, right?"
Also, I'm of two minds about having a third party present when and/if she tells him. On the one hand, people have been killed for a lot less. A WHOLE lot less. But otoh, It would be hard to imagine a more humiliating situation for him having than to hear it in front of a third party stranger.
"I did not call you a name. I labelled you accurately as a troll - a person who deliberately makes inflammatory statements to instigate controversy on an Internet message board. If that ain't you, then may the universe protect me from real trolls. Because you are a troll, I am going to allow you one response only."
Golden Boy is a one note troll with rather distorted and creepily paranoid feelings about Islam. He imagines that he's battling "Islamofascists". I'm sure he would be on the front lines looking for Osama this very minute if it wasn't for his "trick knee" or "old sports injury".
On any subject that's even remotely close to his pet anti-Islamic obssession, you can bet with near certainty that he'll come along and spout the same repetitive nonsense.
He's starting down the road with his strange Sarah Silverman hate.... watch out....
Man, some of you are dense. Yes, "Ugly Betty" is not really ugly, looks or otherwise. That's the main point.
I didn't particularly care for all of Traister's analysis, particularly the part about Manhattan being some sort of distant illusion to people in the other boroughs, but the notion that Ugly Betty is "racist TV with a lefty twist" is just plain nonsense.
"This show ain't believable and it's a downer as it's just more "european americans are so mean" crap when most euro-americans are anything but mean, except maybe in NYC."
Aside from the stupid crack about NYC, her boss is euro-american and he is not mean but her boss's boss is mean and she's not a euro-american. So much for your "theory".
Why you feel compelled to comment on a show you obviously haven't watched is beyond me.
...but understandable. As you said, nobody likes the crazy talented Golden Boy...unless he plays for your team. But, the notion that he was given everything is rather absurd. A lot of guys are/were "annointed" as "the one" but few if any ever perform at that level. Speaking of Leinart, we'll see what he does at this level but he just completed one of the greatest QB runs in NCCA history.
Anyway like Manning or not, he has ridculous talent and by the time the guy retires, he will probably own every major NFL passing record. Ig the commercials bother you, hey tell the other guys to hire better agents.
Btw, iirc, Tenn has never won "it all", if by all you mean National titles.
"Most of the complaints here seem to revolve around her acting like a rock 'n' roll star. If she were male, no-one would even notice."
Nobody notices when male rock stars act like asses? Sure about that? What's with the other "Feminist Gender Studies 101" reflex of stating that people who don't like Love are threatened by "brave?" "strong?" (or some other vanity phrase) women or, more amusingly, a tool of the patriarchy (snort)!
Anyway, I'm meh about Love. I though "Live Through This" was okay. But, she's certainly a trainwreck of mostly her own making. If wrapping that up in a "Punk" ethos works for you then that's cool. Your Madonna comparison is slightly apt at the beginning, but to her credit, Madonna has certainly come a long way baby while Love has just devolved into a caricature.
I beg to differ. Some of you gender warriors are making a mistake. This is not a generic rock star bad behavior (e.g. drug use, sex scandals, etc) issue. For whatever reason CL, seems to have a pathological need to act like an ass in public. If you are going to consistently say and do stupid/weird things in public, your public reputation is not going to be good. Period. Whether you are CL or Michael Jackson or Paris Hilton or Terell Owens or somebody else.
Oops, I shouldn't have mentioned Paris Hilton because this is Salon after all so it's okay here to look down your nose at Hilton and the like because she's just a vapid heiress as opposed to a "brave feminist punk rocking woman" like CL. Hilton's been called way worse stuff than CL on a larger scale and is routinely the butt of slut jokes on the late night monologues. I don't see the folks here rushing to man the barricades to protect her reputation.
Oops, my mistake! Apparently, I didn't recall correctly. Oh well...
