"Kstoned"? How lame and corny.
"You're right, I don't. The difference between my post and the parent post is that I never suggested I had knowledge one way or the other. The exact point I was trying to make. Keep up."
Apprently, reading the article is beyond you as well. Both agents were charged though not convicted of assault with intent to commit murder. So, it appears the parent post is more on point while your questionable objection about "mind reading" is suspect. As I said earlier, the only reason that the suspect wasn't killed had more to do with luck (poor shooting) rather than lack of intent on the part of the agents.
"Losing their jobs, a blot on their professional record, possible prosecution (minus ridiculous federal mandatory sentencing laws). Please indicate where I've suggested they not be held accountable for their poor judgment."
Again, you seem to be suffering under the delusion that how you think they should have been held accountable matters and that since they weren't held accountable in a manner you agree with that's it's some sort of outrageous "miscarriage" of justice when, in reality, it's not at all. The case itself and the result was pretty unremarakable until the political nutjobs got involved.
"Get a rope, K. I'll string them up, and you can kick the stool out from under their legs."
You don't have much of a leg or stool to stand on so now you're being silly and exaggerating for effect.
I'm sorry but that's just absurd. Trying to turn these two bums into some sort of "political prisoners" is, frankly, ridiculous.
"Certainly. They overreacted. In my mind, there's no doubt about that. What I take exception to is how you jump directly to the conclusion that they were trying to murder the guy in cold blood. Do you have some inside knowledge of the border agents' motives that no one else does?
Overreacted, huh? lol. You don't have any inside knowledge that they weren't and that's besides the point anyway. They shot an unarmed fleeing suspect and lied about it and actively tried to cover it up. The fact that the suspect didn't get killed was more a matter of luck than intent.
"I have two thoughts. I think they screwed up and deserve some kind of official punishment/censure. Strip them of their badges. Dismiss them from the border patrol and make an example of them to all other agents that this kind of shoot first/ask questions later mentality is not acceptable in the United States. But ten years apiece in prison? Are you fucking kidding me? That's a miscarriage of justice for which I can spare a little outrage."
Please, there was no miscarriage of justice. Unless you believe that agents who shoot unarmed fleeing suspects, lie about it and cover it up should just get "some kind" of official punishment and censure. The agent who witnessed the shooting testified against them, the agent who help hide the shell casings testified against them, their previous statements about the incident were shown to be lies and so on and on and on. The case against them seemed to be pretty overwhelimg and for prosecutors to try them and a judge to sentence them to serious time in an infamously law enforcement friendly state like Texas should indicate how egregious their actions were in the matter.
"My second thought is that I have no sympathy at all for the guy who was shot. The wrong actions of those two agents in no way make him a sympathetic character. He was in the country illegally, he was stopped, he fled, he was shot at (wrongly). Action, consequence, action, consequence. Accountability for one's poor decisions is a bitch."
Your lack of sympathy is not relevant. So what? Who said it made him a "sympathetic character"? Apparently, your "accountability" doesn't extend to the agents. It sure must be a bitch for them to be held accountable for their poor decisions.
