Original article: Darkness becomes them

dull, dull, dull...and apparently not paying attention

"They have been fleeing and loathing the Cylons for all this time and yet there are dozens of humans willing to join the quisling police?"

So? There were "ordinary" Cylon collaborators long before they settled on New Caprica. In fact, they followed "Gina" and committed several acts of sabotage/terrorism that eventually led to Gina nuking a big part of the remaining human population which acted as a beacon that allowed the Cylons to find them on New Caprica.

Overall, if you consider the entire sequence, the fact that there are dozens of humans willing to join the quisling police force is not surprising. They've been on the desparate run (to a planet that most are not sure exists) from relentless beings who've killed most of them and who can infiltatre and manipulate them at will. Then, they settle for a hard life on a new planet and think they are safe and then the Cylons find them again and take over. Given all that, it's not a shock that some humans would join the Cylon controlled Baltar government police force.

Also, I think the new Caprica occupation isn't necessarily just an echo of WWII Jewish ghettos. The paralell could just as easily be Iraq. Especially since characters were saying things like "damn insurgents", "did you think we'd be greeted with...ah..nevermind...." debating the morality of using suicide bombers, and the Cylon insistence, even to the point of putting a gun to Baltar's head and shooting the Six that was on his side, of getting a human goverment stamp of "approval" for their actions.

You might have missed all that with the murky visuals and all.

Re: "Water in Space"

LOL. Apparently the internet scientists, engineers and math wizards here need to take some more classes. Mabye a "pretentious, diversity loving "Islamafascist" leaning Hollywood screenwriter" can suggest one or two.

Oh btw Laurel, they are using "handheld" phones and other older systems on Galactica because the Cylons can easily corrupt the Humans more advanced computer based communications systems. This was established long ago and it's one of the big reasons that the older model battleship Galactica survived the initial Cylon attack.

You must have missed that with all your rolling around on the floor and whatnot.

Minor correction...

S/B "handset" phones not handheld.

Original article: Arnold's comeback

Re: "Democrats in Washington should also take note"

Yeah, because we all know how popular John Kerry and Al Gore were with Democratic "party activists". Right....

Thanks for the advice...but...

Kevin0211,

Your "advice" is just a silly slap at "party activists". Your labelling of Anglides as someone who is only loved by party activists is just the rhetorical setup that allows you suggest that Democrats in general keep doing the same old thing. Which, as an aside, is funny when you consider the machinations the Repubs used to get Arnold into the Govenor's mansion. "Democrats in Washington" have taken note and they've still "lost". So, I guess we see how well that's been working.

Apparently your advice is keep doing the same and they won't lose any worse, and if Bush keeps screwing up and they pick someone "electable", as opposed to the darling of some wild eyed party activist they just might win next time. Could work though, I hear John Kerry is REALLY fired up this time.

More advice?

"If I remember correctly, both Gore and Kerry won, but only if you count the votes of brown people.

Go home and read your Palast."

Heh. No need to reread Palast. I realized both Kerry and Gore in particular got hosed by Repub skullduggery. Palast just added meat to the argument. I voted for them both but that doesn't mean that the Dems should shy away from someone who's not like them.

Ride Like the Wind

Dude,

If I may call you Dude, I know you didn't write the article but you need to rally think about jumping on your ride and not looking back. The signs are all there. Drip. It will never stop. Drip. Nothing you do will be good enough. Drip. It will always be something. Drip. Plus, you're going to resent her for bullying you, in that uniquely exquisite and subtle way that some people specialize in, into giving up something you love - motorcycle racing. Eventually, no, in fact soon, you will be pruning your friends (granted some seem a bit dicey) down to who she deems acceptable. Next, you'll be "bargain shopping" at Kohl's wondering what the hell happened.

Also, ignore the nannies here who lecture you on what's an acceptable or "responsible" activity for a married man to engage in - as if motorcycle racing were equivalent to selling the China for your next hit of crack or something. But I'm sure it's comforting to know that if you got hurt while you were single apparently that wouldn't have been as bad as now. After all, before you were just a unimportant single dude racing motorcycles. So, if you bit the dust it was no big deal. Maybe your friends and mother/father/siblings/etc. would've boo hooed a bit and tossed some flowers on your grave, but now, you're a real FAMILY MAN so you better make sure that if you ride, you ride in a manner consistent with your newfound status.

Overall, the motorcycle thing is not my thing at all but it was obviously a big part of who you are...or were. I'd think long and hard before giving it up for good, or more accurately, before you seem ready to let it go.

Btw, don't forget, sip don't gulp your wine. She's watching... Good luck
