"After moving to New York to pursue a music career in 2004, Dupre worked as a cocktail waitress, hostess and bartender at New York hot spots like Viscaya, Pink Elephant and Retox. She partied with club promoters and bragged about hobnobbing with hip-hoppers like Sean "Diddy" Combs.

"She's been hanging around the night-life scene for a few years," said one well-connected club source. "She's definitely a party girl. She was out four, five nights a week and was a staple. She danced on tables and had fun."

Few knew she was financing her high-octane lifestyle through the oldest profession on earth.

"Nobody knew she was a prostitute," the club source said. "Everyone assumes it goes on, but you never know which girls are involved. Now it makes sense where her Cartier watch, her Louis Vuitton bathing suit and her trips to St.-Tropez came from."

Dupre continued her pursuit of a music career and in early 2007 had a photographer friend shoot glamour photos of her to use in her portfolio.

Shot in a Manhattan studio, the pictures show a smoky-eyed Dupre, sporting tattoos in both Latin and Arabic. Some of them read: "What does not destroy me makes me stronger," "Protect your own," and "Never give up."

On her MySpace page - where she admitted, "Yeah, I did it," after word of her involvement with Spitzer emerged - Dupre described struggling with drugs. Sources said the tattoos were mantras to help keep her clean.

Born Ashley Youmans, Dupre grew up in Seaside Heights and Wall Township by the Jersey Shore. She also mentioned being abused while growing up, saying it forced her to run away - a claim one family friend called ridiculous.

"She crashed up [her stepdad's] Porsche and wanted another one, and he wouldn't give it to her, so she left," said the friend, who asked her name not be printed."

Yep, classic "Hollywood" story. Young hot chick with little talent and big ambition moves to the big city looking to be a star and gets involved in the party scene and gets in over her head, turns to shady means to keep up the high flying lifestyle. what's funny is that she is still updating her myspace bag with her songs. She's such a victim JUST LIKE those cracked out street hookers. It's all the same. RIGHT...

Let's not kid ourselves, we've heard this story a thousand times. It's a classic "Hollywood" story. Pretty young gal or guy with meager talents but large ego and ambition drops out of hs/college leaves their small town and heads to the big city to be a star! The new fresh faced She/he gets caught up with a fast crowd of entertainment industry hustlers and gets involved in all sorts of shady things and they realize their true...um...talents...are elsewhere. After awhile it gets old quick, they get played out and head back home to start over.

One of the downsides of feminism is that you may get to make the decision, but if you make a colossally stupid one and get humiliated, and then stand there to give moral support to an immortal screwup, the public gets to think that you too are a screwup.

And who would be surprised if right now, Silda Spitzer's laying out her plans to run for Governor of New York herself. After all, her experience as First Lady of New York qualifies her to run the state, doesn't it? Maybe Hillary can offer some advice."

That's a very disingenuous reading of the NY Times article about and interview with "Kristen". The truth looks to be pretty murky and lot more complicated than the "victim" streotype you're pushing.

Um, because she's not a slave simply because you say so. Um, nor is she deluded and wrong and so forth simply because you think so. Um, I'm going to ignore your silly attack against me though it is amusing that it came so quickly after you tried to play like you were being victimized here.

She's dishing it out and others are dishing it back.

She doesn't appear to be a slave. Literally or otherwise. She may be self-hating and self-deluding and wrong, according to you, or she may not be. Either way, that doesn't make her a slave similar to the slaves in the American south or a Iraqi living under American military occupation.
