  • Change?

[Read the article: Hamas' "unendorsement" of Obama]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I'm wondering if other Obama supporters (as I am now) were a little disappointed at his speech at the AIPAC meeting...I know, I know, we have to be realistic about getting elected, etc., but I was listening for any NEW approaches to the Palestinian situation and what I heard sounded a lot like GWB and HRC (even when I was in her camp and she was catching holy hell from the Obama supporters). Is it unrealistic of me to expect more? The Hamas spokesman probably did Obama a big favor by "unendorsing" him, but we still have to wrestle with the Palestinian refugee situation... all glibness aside. Could it be that Hamas, too, was thinking Obama might be the change they could believe in? Has that window closed already?

  • (This one's for you, Rufus):

[Read the article: Is Ralph Nader losing it?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I didn't hear or read Nader's recent words, but I did hear him interviewed on Democracy Now a couple of weeks ago. He may be way out there-- and he's the very definition of "politically incorrect"--still he says all the right things when it comes to the government's relationship with corporations. Oh that our Democratic candidate spoke more to that theme! Thanks for bringing up these items, Joan. We do need to hold Obama's feet to the fire.

  • Colin Who?

[Read the article: Powell for Obama?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Why all this fawning over Powell? He used to be seen as a wise and moderating force but that was years ago. I can reluctantly forgive him for his UN show of smoke and mirrors but I have a hard time respecting his amiable silence in all the disasters that followed. Good Soldier, indeed. Another good-natured (spineless) go-along we do not need now. Keynote speaker at the Democratic convention?!! What message exactly would that give to the nation about our fresh, new, hopeful, "opposition" party? (Of course any notion of new or hopeful is fast fading anyway). Like McClellen, Powell is way too little too late.

  • Caution advised

[Read the article: The Obama cover kerfuffle]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I haven't seen the cover but the "kerfuffle" in response certainly puts me in mind of the Danish cartoons that so offended some Muslims...and made us westerners feel so tolerant and superior.

  • To Smiling Face...

[Read the article: I Like to Watch]

Cesar Milan is very clear in his book and on his show that what he does is NOT training. He rescues dogs with serious problems that are in danger of being put down because of uninformed treatment or just plain abuse. His underlying message to all dog owners is not punitive; first and formost, he says, remember dogs are animals and have animal needs that must be met. The two most important needs are lots of exercise and a sense of security in the pack hierarchy.

Milan is one among many influential teachers I have learned from as I deal daily with my three dogs. I understand the shows are editted to show him at his best--sometimes with humor and tongue-in-cheek self-parody. I find his lessons positive and engaging...and my dogs are definitely getting better daily walks!

  • It's never about sexism,

[Read the article: Quote of the day]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

is it? That's why women are equally represented in all endeavors as men and paid as well, too. That's why picking on a few individual women just proves the rule... It isn't about a sexist attitude that is so pervasive it's the water we fish (all genders of fish) swim in...

Really, it is wearying and disheartening trying to make some people acknowledge the obvious.

  • to A. North

[Read the article: Is Barack cheating on Hillary?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

"Conservative" and "Republicanesque" describes Clinton's political positions? She voted against the FISA bill. If she is conservative, what exactly does that say about Obama's recent positions on issues? The man waxes liberalesque in his well-crafted speeches, but he is proving to be generally more conservative than Clinton, in spite of what most Obama converts would like to believe.
