While watching Countdown last night, Keith Olbermann mentioned Glenn Greenwald in a seqment about the administration's lost documents. It's almost time for Glenn to go on Countdown and get a plug for his new book.
In the early part of 2004, the Department of Justice was engaged -- the Office of Legal Counsel, under my supervision -- in a reevaluation both factually and legally of a particular classified program. And it was a program that was renewed on a regular basis, and required signature by the attorney general certifying to its legality.
So, this particular program had been certified on a regular basis until March 11. Something about the program must have changed, so that the AG couldn't cerify it anymore.
His article was just a talking point, to be used by the noise machine when the administration is found to be illegally monitoring communications.
I'm not sure what you mean by "political prosecution". It sounds like Libby was prosecuted for political reasons, and I disagree with that assessment. If you meant to imply that the right-wing movement sees it as a "political prosecution", then I would agree.
I just pre-ordered my copy. Now I'm going back and pre-order copies for friends.
"One of the core premises enabling such practices -- I'd say the principal one -- "
Now how do I get it autographed?
In the evangelical community, being un-Catholic is a virtue. This amounts to a plus for Giuliani's candidacy, in their eyes.
A serious person would have concerns with Islamists and their religious law and with Christianists and their religious law. The problem is religious law. I think most readers of this blog are secularists. Separation of church and state implies separation of mosque and state, and separation of temple and state. There are threats to secualrism, both internal and external. I oppose both of these threats.
This is all being done with the White House's approval and at its direction. The WH is doing the undermining of Maliki behind the scenes while supporting him in public. Maliki is getting too cozy with the Iranians, he has to go.
I would be surprised if the Army and Marine Corps doesn't already keep track of "how long every individual servicemember had spent in either Iraq or Afghanistan, how long they had been at home". How else could a tour be extended, to day 15 months, unless they knew how long the pre-extended tour was?
Chris Dodd is going to put a hold on this bill.
I went to his site and made a contribution. He is the only candidate who has my enthusiastic support. I hope he can stay in the race long enough that I get an opportunity to vote for him in the primary.
We have heard a lot about the Religious Right sitting out this election if Giuliani is nominated. I'm concerned that Progressives, like myself, may sit this election if HRC is nominated. She doesn't engender any enthusiasm in me.
There's no downside for Dems. So what if they piss off some Progressives. Who else are they going to vote for? The Democratic party is not going to allow anyone to run against one of their incumbents, and third parties are a waste of time and money. If the Presidential race were close, then maybe.
All You Need to (Not) Know About the Proposed FISA Fix
And that's why it is, indeed, almost impossible to have a serious, informed legislative and public debate about proposed FISA reforms ...
Don't tell Joe.

But why didn't they do the same thing during the Clinton adiministration? Time didn't treat Clinton with the same desperation for access to and affection from power.
It's amnesty.
If Bush wants amnesty for the telcos, he can grant them a pardon.
What about Dodd's filibuster?
Didn't he promise to filibuster any bill that had immunity in it?
