smart women, foolish choices

I used to wonder about these educated young women (they're always pretty...or do we only notice the pretty ones?) who go for the 50-year-old professor or the drug dealer or the motorcycle freak. Life has laid out a banquet for them, romantically speaking, however they always seem to gravitate to the hot wings and tequila.

But then, one of these women mistook ME for a "bad boy"! She learned about her error soon enough, and that was the end of that.

"Sometimes one spouse has to bear a larger share of the burden of the relationship."

Sometimes drunks end up divorced and alone (except for their "night out" at AA).

And that's entirely their burden.

I don't hate America

I just hate some of the stuff it does.

Thursday, September 17, 2009 02:23 PM

@Unlovely

you like that statistic...where's the link?

Thursday, September 17, 2009 02:24 PM

a link to Stormfront

doesn't count.

Thursday, September 17, 2009 02:53 PM

provide a direct link to the DOJ statistic you claim to quote

the part where DOJ says "blacks are 19 times more likely to kill whites".

Thursday, September 17, 2009 02:59 PM

I'm asking for a link because I would read that, and if I saw a direct quote I would be inclined to believe the DOJ

I don't really read your posts, because I assume you're lying about anything substantive.

Thursday, September 17, 2009 03:35 PM

unlovely just a note on your math

As I explained previously (and you of course ignored it), the ratio of 19/1 you have calculated would only apply to those murders that are interracial.

The DOJ numbers show that the majority of murders are NOT interracial.

The logical conclusion from the DOJ numbers is that, as a white, my highest risk of murder comes from other whites.

Thursday, September 17, 2009 04:23 PM

...John, was finally made to concede..."

I concede that you can add and multiply, that's all.

blacks are more likely to be murdered overall, receive harsher sentences for the same crime, have higher infant mortality rates, poverty rates, etc, etc, etc...

The fact that you cling to this one statistic and this one statistic alone to inform your understanding of race relations shows that your knowledge of this country is puddle-deep.

Thursday, September 17, 2009 04:30 PM

groundzero

you've pretty much said that all lefties are enemies of the state.

Why was it we're supposed to be all happy to see you and respectful and all that when you post your fucked up letters???

You should try them sometime...maybe with a big glass of vodka.

well I've been alone most of my life and so don't really understand this idea of balancing treatment for your early-stage depression against another person's need to advance their career

Readerreader is the oddest freak

I have ever seen on the internet. He is not the weirdest or wildest...but he is extremely strange.

He probably has a petting zoo in his back yard, and all the animals are wearing Sarah Palin halloween masks.

I've only been posting for a couple of years but I've been reading Salon since around 1997.

"The ad meant to scare the daylights out of anyone considering voting for Goldwater."

Virtue, what's your point?

Saturday, September 19, 2009 11:16 AM

"Torture is not as effective, if I am allowed to torture."

I seriously doubt that the thinking is quite that involved.

Saturday, September 19, 2009 11:30 AM

"It implied that if a vote for Goldwater would bring on nuclear war."

a reasonable assumption.

Conservatives thought the Willie Horton ad was great stuff, if I remember correctly.

Saturday, September 19, 2009 11:44 AM

Lucy with Diamonds

I think Virtue is using this logic:

A implies B

B implies not C

Saturday, September 19, 2009 11:50 AM

Virtue001: "Surely if all the ad prompted wa "a reasonable assumption," it would never have been universally criticized and quickly pulled."

What a conservative thinks is reasonable and what I think is reasonable are probably two different things.

And at that time, I think that the networks were more responsive to the opinions of people like you than people like me.

So basically I'm questioning whether or not the ad really was "universally" criticized.

The Wille Horton ad certainly wasn't universally criticized.

"Small government" is not a value

The type of government is the real issue.

For example, most people would rather live in a large, bloated democratic republic than a small, efficient dictatorship.

virtue has the power to get us all!!!

Saturday, September 19, 2009 02:53 PM

what's interesting

is that the CIA can simultaneously be staffed by morons and thugs and also pull off incredible, highly-engineered "assasinations" and "terrorist attacks".
