"Jewish money has purchased almost every U.S. politician"

Oh...I thought it was the Catholics who had bought everybody. I guess I need to spend more time here.

"We will kill Jews everywhere. There will be no security for any Jews, those who came from America, Russia or anywhere."

- Hamas leader Abdel Aziz Rantisi, assasinated by the Israeli Army 4/17/2004

Saturday, January 3, 2009 08:00 PM

quote was 3/28/04 at Gaza City's Islamic University, following the assassination of Hamas founder Sheik Ahmed Yassin

In response to your second point: all wars cause civilian casualties. Certainly Hamas has caused civilian casualties, and Israel has caused many more. If you want to play with the terrorist label, more power to you.

I judge Hamas by its statements, not by your rhetoric.

Practically a guarantee that the shenanigans will continue, under his radar.

How about an insider who was one of the dissenting voices? Wait...google is still searching on that one...

"What is _with_ the constant hostility towards artists and creative folks?"

The problems of creative people are over-represented here, and are annoying. If these people want unqualified support, they should get a therapist instead of writing to a public discussion forum.

Why is the onus on me to _not_ be hostile? Are we all part of the same 12-step program or something, just because we read Cary Tennis?

@ScepticalGeek

Clinton -> Carnivore -> Panetta -> CIA wiretapping...?

Carnivore was an FBI program, and the NSA is listening to our cell calls, not CIA...which is too busy with all that black ops shit to bother with domestic civil liberties violations (?).

What would be encouraging: an insider who knows how it all works, with some demonstrated commitment to reign in the insanity (Tyler Drumheller?).

Dear Cary

Last week I discovered that my lover has been seeing a woman on the side. Of course we had an immediate pow-wow with the three of us, since I just got my trust fund and although we're not married there was always an understanding between us about the money. I'm a web designer, she's a graphic artist...I certainly know and approve of the fact that our relationship will become part of her "city loves" zine. The problem is that she thinks the idea of an eventual coffee table book is too suburban for the zine's semiotic structure.

I thinks she just needs to go for it. But my feelings are complicated by the fact that she is sleeping with somebody else. Oh, she'll be getting her trust fund too. But possibly not in time! She has a soul-searing, soul-crushing job in an office someplace that's not in the loft district...it's possible that she will quit and become homeless if she can't resolve the work/romance issues before then.

The question is, should I split my money three ways? Should my lover do her coffee table book? And is my jealousy an issue of any kind? Cary, help!

Original article: Did I just buy an SUV?

I'm an environmentalist. My family is getting the SM-65 Atlas booster rocket.

It's much more economical than the larger Atlas-V. Hardly a booster rocket at all...it's more of a small hypersonic medium-payload missile.

Our family will still be able to reach escape velocity fairly quickly. And all our stuff fits great!

Original article: Panetta under fire already

Panette will be confirmed, but never accepted

Obama should have picked an intelligence community insider with compatible politics.

Original article: Panetta under fire already

Panetta will be great with the college-recruited "we are the world" types

But what about the sleepers, zombies, and paramilitary sadists?

They'll give him the dog whistle, but he won't know how to play it.

Monday, January 5, 2009 07:15 PM

Obama should have named an insider with military credibility

The paramilitary section of CIA is running rampant in the world...this elitist obsession with domestic cell phone surveillance is beside the point IMO.

Obama needs a military leader from the intelligence community, operating from his playbook, to get a handle on worldwide paramilitary operations. The domestic spying stuff needs to be dealt with by Congress, since it involves several agencies. And the embassy set can just go on doing whatever it is that they do...the choice of director will just determine what political party these people happen to belong to.

But hey...this guy was one of the magic Clinton people. How can that go wrong?

to the LW

My responses were not about you...in fact I barely read your letter. Mostly I use the Salon letters section to work on personal issues. Occasionally someone makes an indirect reference to what I write, but for the most part I work completely free of feedback.

So I assume it's not that big of an issue.

Original article: Panetta under fire already

"Of course the two want an "intelligence professional" as opposed to an intelligent administrator as director."

Of course...there cannot be a "housecleaning" at CIA because its entire purpose is illegal operations. Better to have an insider who can control the thing, turning it to a better purpose (like the way Carter tried to use covert ops against human rights violators).

The idea that Panetta will be be able to come in and use his superior administrative skills to transform everything is, I think, naive.

Tuesday, January 6, 2009 12:48 PM

FOR GOD'S SAKE, SHE'S A KENNEDY!

Caroline can't be expected to noodle her whole life away doing law or whatever it is that she's doing. DESTINY CALLS!

For example, if I were offered a position in C Division...many would say: oh, he's opting in...screw him. Or, he opted out WAY TOO LONG AGO and will get into C Division OVER MY DEAD BODY.

But these people don't realize that the fix is in, I am a STAR and I WILL GET INTO C DIVSION and maybe even get a cubicle with cabinets!!! YEAH!

It's just like Caroline, only on a much more trivial level. I totally can see where she's coming from.
