@weeping

I often wonder, when reading through these threads, how many people have spent time thinking about what justice actually is and, for that matter, what liberalism actually is.

You strike me as someone who would like this letters area to be a salon in the traditional sense: a genteel place for the polite discussion of ideas, and polite disagreements about those ideas. Alas, anyone can see that only a small fraction of the work published here would fit that description.

As a person who actually lives in a basement and sometimes posts in his underwear, I have to admit that I take a certain glee in the pathological flowerings that happen here every day.

But I wish that this was not so.

Clinton is off-message

So everyone fixates on her gaffes. Another problem is that HRC herself seems to think that she's on-message with all the current storm and fury:

I AM MORE ELECTABLE!

SEAT ALL THE DELEGATES!

I AM ACTUALLY WINNING!

etc.

This is picked up by her supporters...I went to look at Taylor Marsh and could not find a single article presenting positive information about Hillary the Candidate...as opposed to ones listing the grievances of Hillary the Conspiracy Victim, or detailing the latest crimes of Barack the Evil.

Original article: The education gender gap

"But another part of me thinks that if societal gender equality leads to boys being that far behind at something as important as reading, at some point, it ceases to be equality"

Most likely there is some factor in "societal gender equality" that is being overlooked.

What if the supers pick Hillary? Will you guys accept the outcome?

I'm voting for the nominee. If it's HRC...well, the process is the process.

it's better that these people leave

The Democrats will then have a real chance to become a viable opposition party.

many of us are not writers

but we want to contribute anyway. So my advice is: take a long bath. Do some writing while in the tub, if you possibly can. See if this makes your writing "wetter". "Wetter" is the new "edgy".

3 mil is a lot of money

Supppose you actually net two million...a two-percent account would earn you $40,000/yr...plenty for writing the next great american novel, or for becoming an alcoholic.

Of course the money wizards will earn you way more than that...mo money, mo money!

@indigo218

then why do you keep telling us to follow whatever HRC says....at a gun point?

This is not my point of view.

Since we are not a cultist, you can't expect to use the same argument with everybody you reply to.

"What does the end of her historic presidential campaign mean for women?"

Maybe it will mean that more women will have the opportunity to run for president in the future.

Original article: Clinton news roundup

"Only if we fix the broken system"

Change is incremental. There will be other candidates who will drive the system towards reform...maybe even HRC herself in 2012.

Unfortunately, the media isn't really broken anyway...it works perfectly well for the people who own it. Continually fielding candidates and applying pressure through the political process is the only way to really get them to listen.

They're probably listening a lot more now than they were a year ago.

Tuesday, June 10, 2008 09:44 PM

why have taxes at all

they just cut into profits...the poor can form personal savings plans to finance roads and schools and stuff like that.

McCain is drawing a line in the sand

between "An Inconvenient Truth" America and "apple pie and Chevrolet" America. He's betting one is bigger than the other.

Flip flop or not...when it comes to digging up more oil, we can't let the terrorists win (???)

Saturday, June 21, 2008 11:23 AM

the purists will condemn Obama on FISA

guess everyone should send a clear message against FISA by...voting for McCain?

Saturday, June 21, 2008 11:34 AM

picking his battles to get elected may look bad

But I really don't think that an Obama administration would be worse than a McCain administration re domestic surveillance. Hence my defense of Obama.

more garbage from Hollywood

hey, here's a bored office worker...does he really want to be a concert pianist? An astronaut? Or maybe have the romance of a lifetime...

Wait, this is Hollywood. Hollywood knows that bored office workers all just want to KILL PEOPLE.

Thanks for clearing that up Hollywood!

MS products are good enough

When Steve gave us a black-and-white screen with MacPaint, Bill gave us a compac lunchbox with a spreadsheet.

When Steve gave us a postscript cube with no floppy, Bill gave us the brilliant mediocrity of Windows 3.0.

When Steve gave us non-linear video editing, Bill gave us Office.

Bill is the genius of good enough.

Friday, June 27, 2008 07:30 PM
Original article: Leave Bill Clinton alone!

just how BAD is Obama?

"well, Bill wasn't there...that's BAD"

"Hillary had more blue in her outfit than Obama, could be BAD."

"Did we mention FISA? Bad."

"What is this article about, anyway? Did you know that I'll NEVER vote for Obama?

"Yes, you are stupid...listen to me. BAD BAD BAD."

The political geniuses have spoken.
