There's definitely a hippie culture right now in the US, finding its incarnation in small rural college towns, white dreads, organic supermarkets, the reggae concert circuit, the VW microbus and, of course, pot.
As to what it "means", well, who knows.
I believe this is what you're looking for:

Fascism?
A class divide exists someplace between the ad industry "creatives", copywriters, movie producers etc. and the sort of people who are toiling away at the local community college teaching bookbinding or running a small ceramics studio.
The former always have one eye on the mass market mega-hit and so are essentially bourgeois in outlook, while the latter are IMHO the actual bohemians. But they also may seem obsessed with $, mainly because it's so hard to make it at the low end.
Get a professor except make it Archeology or something. The coeds really dig him but he's too busy racing the Nazis for the Arc...oh never mind.
Obama took a risk by criticizing economic conditions in this country. Clinton, on the other hand, will say "I was against NAFTA from the beginning" rather than address the conditions NAFTA helped create. In a sense the issue is divorced from reality, and becomes a token to be won or lost in the seemingly endless cycle of candidate statements and news coverage.
The problem for us Obama supporters is that his statements may do more to antagonize people than rally them. At least, that's what Clinton and McCain would have us think.

While it is important to note that poll data can have a considerable margin of error, the same can be said about people who post their opinions on the web.
but the fact that all three candidates are so close means that the MAXIMUM number of "spoiler" votes are available against EITHER Democratic candidate.
The real problem is ignorance. Igorance of the truth among people who think they know better or know it all when they don't.
Since you are so enlightened maybe you should consider moving beyond the "great man" school of historical analysis.
haven't seen much of lolcait lately, either.
Hillary's candidacy was not a surprise...people have been predicting it since she won her senate seat. It was to be historic: the first female presidential candidate.
Yet all we get from Salon is one article after another of anecdotal evidence on sexism and racism. Has no one thought to study, in a serious and systematic way, the issue of gender bias in the media and among the electorate during this election cycle...this HISTORIC election cycle? Cal Berkeley and Stanford are not far from the offices of Salon, yet if they are doing anything on this topic it sure seems to be a secret from you folks.
And no, a two-question survey doesn't really cut it. Nor do the myopic dinner-party musings of another 30-something e-journalist. Unless the goal is to just get people riled up.
Prevalence is a statistical term that requires a systematic sampling of a target population, which these Salon hit pieces don't do.
It would be more accurate to say that the article expresses how frequently the author experiences sexism among the people that she knows.
Yes to your shoulds...and, I'm voting for Obama in the Oregon primary.
Some women may feel that this kind of article "opens up a dialog", however I find that the whole premise of being characterized as an "Obama Boy" sort of devalues my perceptions from the very start. The old accusation "do you still beat your wife" comes to mind, as we are invited to discover how we have been, and continue to be, sexist pigs.
Fortunately voting is not a collaborative effort; no inter-gender consensus is required.
Your research is impeccable. Have you considered writing for Salon?
Are you aware that, in 2008, Hillary Clinton is a United States senator?
With friends like you who needs enemies.
the castration post from last night comes to mind...also, the sheer quantity of your posts could be considered de facto trolling
perhaps what I object to is your trolling, as I stated.
read all about it in Salon
My personal recession was a number of years ago...food stamps and a lot of peanut butter. The experience was very anxiety-inducing, and I really didn't see it as a way to expand my culinary creativity.
These days I'm one of those people who buys the gourmet pizza and $8 sushi pre-packs at Whole Foods.
Well, water is heavy. Although it's hard to imagine that the weight tolerances are that tight.
Hillary is "winning" because she has not yet lost completely. And please...threaten to vote for McCain again for the zillionth time.
The Democrats did very well in 2006, partly due to the help of Moveon.

The Brownshirts have spoken.
Thanks. The problem of course is that Shawn thinks HE is the voice of reason.
Yeah, I guess swing voters were "the deciders" in the last couple of presidential elections.
How'd that work out for you?
coming from someone who threatens people, doesn't mean much
Joan Walsh's concern-trolling around Obama's campaign requires at least the appearance of balance to be effective...as it apparently is, for some people.
Former First Lady, US Senator, multimillionaire, non-cookie baker.
You must know by now that AKA has staked out the letters section as her turf.
