A real purity oath would involve manditory military service for all elected republicans, and a marxmanship test. It would require a pledge to attend church every sunday, and copulation only within the confines of marital baby-making. No divorces. No criminal record whatsoever. It would require a republican to make at least 10 million dollars as a businessman before running for office. If youre born rich you should make 1 billion, or 100 million if youre a pussy.

I think Beck is right to be studying the chinese. im sure the chinese have 10, 20 50 year plans for all segments of their industries. they use a central gov to boost their private sector. as their economy could potentially outgrow ours in the coming decades, we may want to see what works, and improve our economic governance technology to compete.

I was raised by a Quaker mom who asked me to decline saying the pledge because it was nationalistic. While growing up, none of my teachers gave me a hard time for not standing.

while telling teachers to "jump in a lake" or whatever sounds sassy - it sounds like the adults were excersizing questionable decision making, and it takes courage for a kid to stand up to authority (it even sounds like he was trying to maintain a polite dignity in his firm refusal)

It shows that democracies have a history of hipocracy. Take Athens as an example: promoting their gov as utopian while at the same time acting as an evil empire - colonizing and enslaving other peoples.

It also shows that Democracies are vulnerable to coup by olagarchies and tyrants - and that free people have to rise up and fight against those tyrants and coup plotters every once in a while.

i was reading about the fall of the byzantine empire. back then they auctioned off the job of tax collector. the higher they bid for the job, the more agressive they needed to be to collect money. eventually this lead to all sorts of abuse and corruption. our elections/gov have evolved into a similar system.
