@omar - wrong again

YOU'RE uncomfortable with us coloreds.

I suppose that's why I chose to live in 70 percent black New Orleans all those years, surrounded by black neighbors, friends, acquaintances, co-workers, politicians and yes, enemies. The latter two camps were usually one and the same. I could care less if you're "an Arab". Ugly isn't an ethnicity.

@DurianJoe

My unsolicited advice to you is to not enter into internet arguments with people you deem hopelessly insulting. There is no way to prevail in such a situation, and you will feel worse when it's over (and in theory, it's never over)

Thanks. This is advice I've given myself over and over, but, but, but - it isn't fair. The internet has a way of turning many who are ostensible adults into junior sandbox slashers. What makes me nuts is posters who indulge in this behavior, all the while claiming to be on the side of the angels. They make Rush Limbaugh look like St. Francis.

Original article: Cheney lives on

One thing is certain

There is a certain type of Obama fan who will follow the leader to and through the gates of fascist hell, heedlessly trampling underfoot a tatty old piece of paper called the Constitution. The mindlessness of these people scares the living daylights out of me.

Oh, and Joan: isn't it high time you started holding Obama responsible for Obama's (many) failings? He's the one with the "D" after his name - not Cheney. He's the one in the Oval Office - not Cheney. He's the one breaking every campaign "promise" he ever made - not Cheney. He's the one breaking the law by blocking the torture photographs - not Cheney. He's the one blocking prosecution for torture - not Cheney. He's the one who voted for FISA - not Cheney. He's the one who ramrodded an unexamined failure of a stimulus bill through - not Cheney. He's the one responsible for passage of no-accountability TARP I - not Cheney. He's the one who's firmly in bed with Wall Street and the banksters - not Cheney. He's the one betraying his LGBT supporters - not Cheney. And that's just the shortlist.

@jonathanseer - omigod

There are none so blind as you. Pretzelification of this degree is positively painful to witness.

Answer this, Joan

When someone proves to me that Pelosi is anywhere near as corrupt as her disgraced forebears as speakers, Jim Wright and, yes, Newt himself, I will support her resignation, as a feminist and as an American.

Is there a degree of corruption worse than remaining silent about the torture of fellow human beings, Joan? Please get back to us on this.

@deering

You winger morons can't have it both ways--if Pelosi supported this policy, what does that say about Bush, Cheney, and all the scumbags in that administration who had it carried out?

Oh my, another one. What was it about my comment which allowed you to automatically assume that I'm a "winger moron"? Please do get back on this.

Watch it, omar

Or I'm likely to start dropping hints that you live in K-K-Kovington (to draw a page from your handbook of gratuitous insults). You know, that conservative, solidly Republican bastion across the lake from New Orleans to which people fled to avoid the realities, racial and otherwise, of inner-city living. Never once thought of doing so, not once in my 30 years ensconced in the heart of New Orleans. Feel free to fire away. I won't be returning to this thread.

I have one big fat question

Why on earth didn't those of you now "disillusioned" by Obama read up on his history before you decided to support him??? Why??? There was plenty of information out there, plenty of it, indicating that Obama was and is out for himself and himself alone. Name ONE principled thing Obama has ever done in his life to benefit others, just ONE thing. All along, during both the primaries and the general election, he displayed plenty of public behavior indicating that he has a nasty streak a mile wide, an entirely unattractive surliness when he doesn't get his own way, a willingness to betray one and all with amazing facility. In short, he is a man with no moral compass.

Why did you insist on slicing and dicing those of us who saw just what Obama is? Why did you call us racists day after day after day? And why do some of you still insist that Hillary Clinton would be no better than Obama, when her demonstrable history indicates otherwise?

I believe Obama's election is the biggest political betrayal of my lifetime (and I've been voting for over 40 years). I believe Obama will be the biggest political disaster this country has ever seen, even surpassing Bush, because Obama's years in the White House will spell the death of genuine liberalism.

So, dream on about the possibility of a single payer health care system. It will never happen under Obama, who's firmly in the pocket of big business and big power - and has been all along. Obama has always, always gravitated toward whatever will bring him the most expensive marbles as fast as possible with the least effort. The ultimate game was the White House, now he's got it, so he's angling for the most power he can amass, strictly for future personal gain.

You really think Obama lies awake at night worrying about the fate of those with cancer and no job and no health insurance? Dream on.

@hunthorse

Obama's race has absolutely nothing to do with the abysmal aspects of his character. But it had everything to do with the rush of many to support him, perhaps out of a need to prove to the world - and themselves - that no, they couldn't possibly harbor any racist tendencies whatsoever. This is exactly what Obama and his Axelrodian assemblage counted on. As Professor Harold Hill liked to proclaim in reference to his small town marks, "You gotta know the territory!" Obama and company had it mapped to a tee. Unlike Obama, however, the Music Man didn't come equipped with brass knuckles underneath the nice white gloves.
