The fact remains that all over the country, today many thousands of people took the time and trouble to exercise their right to peaceful assembly and free speech. Something the increasingly nasty, smug, condescending, propagandistic, divisive, and hypocritical "left" no longer seems to believe in. Ditto the craven MSM, which once again managed to cover themselves in shame.
For many years, I was naturally aligned with the left of FDR, Truman, and Johnson. That left exists no more. It is apparently in the final stages of deforming itself, becoming that which it long claimed to despise, an occasion for both deep sorrow and anger.
There are many, many more out here just like me, true, lifelong liberals with newly opened eyes who no longer have a political home. Think of us as the Cassandras in the coal mine on that day when you finally wake up and realize that your contribution amounts to a dreadful fall of darkness.
HateTex
Blah blah blah....we've had your number for a long time. You've been a froth-at-the-mouth right-wing troll since Day One. Go join your Teabag buddies, you know, the ones that say, "On 9/11, I think they hit the wrong building."
You are exactly the type of 'leftie' I refer to in my previous comment. Thank you for validating it.
What has the right-wing fringe going over the deep end is the fact that Barack Obama, a black man, has been elected President of the United States
This worn out bit of business is so flipping tired, it should be put to sleep for at least the next millennium. Putting it into play is a sure sign that the writer lacks any decent argument. Just stop it, please, will you?
You liberal idiots and your moral equivalence.
I think the phrase you're looking for here is actually 'moral relativism'. In the case of torture, excuse me - harsh tactics (ref. NYTimes), relativism is the moral equivalent of a complete cop out.
I think you need to read my post again. Of course we're talking about torture here, a subject which is making my stomach turn and my heart sink. BTW, whether or not retribution is in order is NOT Obama's decision to make. Since when did the Oval Office subsume the judiciary? Ah well, the Constitution is so 18th century. Let me be absolutely clear, we must look forward, etc. etc.
See Glenn Greenwald's column, which seems to attract a rather more thoughtful reader/commenter. Here, I'll even supply the link:

Bet Anita Hill is just thrilled. Perhaps you could fill your readers in on just who this woman is, Joan, and exactly what Arlan Specter meant for her. I used to have a fairly good opinion of you. No longer. You seem to have traded the old brain in for a new Bot version as you work hard at enabling the 'new' Democratic party. You know, the one that's so intent on killing off what once made the Democratic party not the Republican party. So, happy 100 days, and enjoy the hell out of your new friend Arlen. He fits the new narrative to a tee.
The ad hominem shtick is wearing thin. It doesn't make you entertaining, just inane.
I could definitely see half the Democratic party becoming right/center leaning Clinton Democrats and the other half become left leaning Obama Democrats, in fact this split was clear in the primaries.
You have it exactly backwards. But then, that's how Obama "won" the election, by capitalizing on the willingness of so many to conflate "black" with "liberal". Obama is by no means a liberal, he's not even close. It was Hillary who voted against FISA. Obama voted for it. It was Hillary who crusaded for children's health care. Obama simply tacked an extra tax onto the cigarettes which the parents of poor children smoke and called it SCHIP. Obama is now doing his damndest to make sure there will be no torture probes or prosecutions (do you read Glenn Greenwald?). It's highly unlikely Hillary would do the same. Nothing in her history suggests she would so miserably flunk this test. In case you haven't noticed, Obama is comfortably in bed with Wall Street and the banksters, backing up their various frauds all the way. Again, it's very difficult to imagine Hillary being quite this comfy with the economic malefactors who have been given license by Obama to continue on their path of destruction.
We appear to have a black teflon president who's shown himself quite willing to take up where Reagan left off. Only this time it's the so-called left which just can't get enough of the charade. If you don't mind, I'll be joining the Hillary wing in fighting for a new party, a party that represents true liberalism and integrity and a fighting chance for those not wired into the system either by birth or chance.
Poor sick ass Kate
Her clinging fate
To hold fast and true
To her fucked up hate
I realize you think of him as your amusing little buddy, Joan, but in the interest of decency and actual discussion, you might think of banning him. Allowing posters like him to continue their pointless, obscene attacks on other posters doesn't say much for your judgment. Do you think bending over backwards to accommodate this nastiness makes you look cool or something?
No cognitive dissonance here. Did it ever enter your mind that Hillary accepted the job as SOS because she believes she can do something for her country? Not everything in the universe points toward Obama, you know. Including Hillary.
The two of you exemplify why I quit reading salon for a very long time, with the exception of Glenn Greenwald's blog. You aren't interested in substance, you're out for cheap blood and cheap thrills. You're the sort of 'new Democrat' which makes some of us want to weep. Also scream.
