Obama is neither progressive nor centrist

Obama is almost undoubtedly a classic narcissist whose sole aim consists of promoting and furthering himself, over and over and over again. Betraying others doesn't even enter into the scheme of things for the narcissist, for the dynamic doesn't even exist in the utterly self-focused, self-reflecting world. Obama simply chose a label - "Democrat", slapped it on himself, and began climbing toward the greatest prize in the American political world. The number of bodies or principles trampled underfoot doesn't begin to matter. Not. At. All. It's all about the Brass Ring. The one Obama wants to grab and glue to his resume.

That Obama has gotten this far and is this close to the Oval Office, is scary, truly scary. God help us all.

We've tossed the Fourth Amendment

Let's go after the First! What say we elect Obama and once he's comfy in the Oval Office, any cartoonist who displeases Obamadom will have a hand cut off. Any comedian who offends will have a tongue removed. Yah. Cool. Everybody down with that?

Smug ugly - brought to you by Powder Milk Biscuits

There was a time when I loved listening to Keillor's PHC monologues. No more. He has somehow become a smug old self-satisfied coot whose reality ain't got nuthin' to do with most of the realities Out Here. Tell you what, Garrison. Tell your neighbor to forget Guatemala. How 'bout the two of you - and the spoiled kid - go spend some time in New Orleans. Consider it a foreign country with no passport requirement (however, packing is advisable). You'll find that in the 'sweetness of July', nothing seems to matter in New Orleans either, but it ain't because the livin' is easy. It never is in a broken land which lives in fear of the next storm with a name.

So, when and why did you become Such A Jerk? It is something to do with the air in Minnesota?

@mglewis

So, been to New Orleans? I mean, since The Storm? The city was my home for 30 years - until Katrina. So maybe I know whereof I speak.

In concert with Bush Sr., Bill Clinton raised over $120 million for Katrina victims. And what did Obama contribute? Why, a speech, of course. But then, that's probably enough for you and GK, out there in the land of livin' easy. For some of us, words do matter, but actions mean a hell of a lot more.

@rtf

[Obama] has a free-flowing style that is not edgy like Gore, not conceited like Kerry and not deceitful like Hillary.

That there is a real jaw dropper. Which planet might you inhabit? Whoa.

@diomedes - who paid for The Trip

The American taxpayer did indeed fund the Mid East portion of the Obama campaignpalooza, as it was billed as a 'fact finding mission' (hah). And, like texasmountaineer - and undoubtedly many millions of others, I very much resent this fiction.

You don't have to be a racist

To believe that Obama is a truly horrible candidate. But to say so guarantees you'll be called one.

Wonder how many non-blacks are reluctant to vote for Obama simply because any criticism of him will likely be greeted with the charge of racism. Millions is my guess.

Afraid the cell phone theory is DOA

Have all the cell phone theorists completely forgotten the numerous primary polls where Obama's numbers looked really good, only to have the presumptive nominee either barely scrape by Hillary or lose to her, sometimes in a big way?

Agreed that polls are pretty superfluous this far out, but wishful thinking is just that.

Original article: Songs for Obama

Yah, and I'd like to buy the world a Coke

I'd like to buy the world a home and furnish it with love, Grow apple trees and honey bees, and snow white turtle doves. I'd like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony, I'd like to buy the world a Coke and keep it company.

It's the real thing, Coke is what the world wants today... dum dee dum....

Oh, please. New Coke, anyone?

Obama IS arrogant

Obama is the color of money and power for the sake of power and ego in service of itself. He is arrogance personified. Enough with the 'uppity' ruse already. It's just as ugly as racism, with the added downside of being patently false. Not to mention endlessly annoying.

This one's easy

Obama has played the race card over and over and over again. He used it in an effort to bury Hillary - and Bill - Clinton, in one of the most disgraceful campaign episodes ever witnessed in this country. McCain is smart to call Obama on his race baiting tricks at the outset. Hillary couldn't do it, because she would just have been further incinerated by the left (and the media fanboyz). Time to burn the race card once and for all. Obama's already set back race relations in this country a good 20 years. He must be stopped. Period.

@dmag - for what it's worth

My two cents seems to be the going rate.

This ad isn't 'desperate'

Not by any stretch. Nope, it's downright funny and the Heston/Moses bit got me (and undoubtedly millions of others here under the bus) laughing out loud. Anyone who appreciates Monty Python (even a little bit), has to love this one. Vero possumus splittumus (Latin for roadkilling humor).

p.s. What's the world coming to when it's the Republicans with the sense of humor?

Saturday, August 2, 2008 09:24 PM

And why shouldn't she?

Polls continue to show that Hillary handily outperforms Obama - every time - in a match-up with McCain. Why the hell shouldn't she put herself up for nomination? What a shame this outstanding candidate has been trashed by her own party. By the CDS faction, at any rate (amply represented, as always, here on salon). What fools, what utter fools some of you are.

Original article: Clinton denies being racist

Live by the race card

Die by the race card. RIP Obama campaign. The fact that a former DEM president with a lifelong, demonstrably excellent track record on race, can be found on national TV stating, "I am not a racist. I've never been a racist", is incredibly sad, not to mention deeply disturbing for many millions of us out here. And we will remember in November, when we take our anger to the polls. Believe me, we will remember. Will we ever.
