Hillary as Iceberg
[Read the article: Is the White House supporting Hillary Clinton?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I really feel that I am a passenger on the Titanic watching the Iceberg coming at me in slow-motion. Between the political sway of President Clinton and the sly advocacy of the chatterring, fuctionally GOP-serving idiots of the punditocracy, the forces pushing for her nomination are legion.
Hillary's nomination will bring only doom to the democrats in 08. If we nominate her, then everyone stupid enough to have voted for her in the primary will be getting the Republican President that they deserve.
Even at this early stage in the game, a poll found that 52% of the public WILL NOT CONSIDER VOTING FOR HILLARY. The trend in Presidential elections is for the candidates to invariably be less popular as the election cycle progresses. This is naturally the result of all of the negative advertising and press coverage that the candidates receive during the whole dog and pony show that is a modern presidential campaign. Hillary is already so far in the hole at this early stage of the game, popularity-wise, that for the party to nominate her is to commit sepuku.
Hell, she doesn't just mobilize the GOP base in way favorable to the Republicans; she will get independents to line up for the GOP more than they would if there were a different Democratic candidate. The only people that can stomach Hillary are Democratic primary voters.

Hastert- Genocide Booster
[Read the article: Report: Dennis Hastert to retire]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Hastert years ago introduced a bill in the House to label and condemn the Ottoman Empire's genocide of Armenians early in the 20th century. Then he killed his own bill. Later it came to light (in a Vanity Fair article) that he took thousands in bribes from Turkish sources (perhaps even connected to heroin cash, it has elsewhere been stated). Amazingly, nothing ever came of this. The FBI translator who had the dirt on Hastert was gagged by the Ashcroft Justice Department who invoked the State Secrets privilege. I am not making this shit up.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Too much of this site is frivolous piffle, but these two guys alone make Salon worth visiting.

How do you spell "doom?"
[Read the article: Barack Obama's Republican edge]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]H-I-L-L-A-R-Y
Obama or Edwards can appeal to independents and Republicans, despite being less conservative than Hillary. Go figure.
Hillary is what the GOP is praying for. She must be stopped.

I Fear Hillary...
[Read the article: The Hillary Clinton Nutcracker]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]...as the Democratic nominee. Thompson could beat her, ol' boy doofus that he is. Too many people would just balk at the prospect of her as the President, even though they do not feel positively toward the GOP. In the end, on the question of likeability, Thompson comes off much, much better than Hillary.
She is the bringer of doom, the snuffer of all hope. Her hubris blocks out the sun. God save us from this woman.
Also, why hasn't Salon published a review of The Israel Lobby? With a potential unprovoked war against Iran on the horizon, does Salon not think the subject matter worth discussing?

Ms. Doomsday
[Read the article: The nag, the witch and the media]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The only reason Hillary could possibly become President is that the Republicans have been so horrific for the last 7 years. Even taking that into account, Hillary is the worst person for the Democrats to nominate.
A poll taken not that long ago showed that 53% of voters WILL NOT CONSIDER voting for Hillary. Even with all of the harm that Republicans have done, none of them poll that badly on that question and that makes it pretty clear that nominating Hillary is about the fucking stupidest thing the Democrats could do at this point. People obviously have a strong dislike of her and do not want to see her become President. Everyone knows her by now. Opinions are not likely to change.
The GOP bullshit machine hasn't even warmed up yet (because they want her to be the nominee). That is why you are more likely to hear our idiot pundits talking about Edwards' haircuts or how Obama rhymes with Osama.
Meanwhile, Hillary draws support from big numbers of Democratic women whose political sophistication goes no further than "It's no fair that we always have a man President." Ours is the party of knee-jerk identity politics.
And another thing: A really sad thing about the Israel Lobby's stranglehold over the Democratic Party is that none of the other candidates is likely to call Hillary out for supporting the designation of Iran's military as a terrorist organization. Attacking Hillary for this wold appeal to the party's anti-war base, but I don't think that Edwards or Obama want to risk the ire of AIPAC and company.

Shoes
[Read the article: Born-again sneaker freak]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I bought some expensive Dinosaur Jr. Nike Dunks recently. They are the most ridiculous thing I've ever bought, but they are so fucking sweet! DJ is my favorite band of all time and when I found out that those shiny silver and purple shoes existed, I had to possess them. I know consumerism is lame, and I almost always avoid brand names, but sometimes a product is so righteous that it must be purchased, consequences be damned!
