Hillary Not so Great
[Read the article: Will the real Hillary please stand up?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]There are many things that make Hillary much less desirable as the Democratic nominee. Off the top of my head:
her support for the Iraq War
Ruppert Murdoch had a fundraiser for her.
the hubris and stupidtity she showed in the healthcare reform debacle
her shady connections through her old lawfirm to a corrupt Indonesian billionaire (Greg Palast has the story on this)
her former position on the Wal-Mart Board of Directors
her cowardice in refusing to aggressively pursue protections for National Security Whistleblowers (See Sibel Edmonds' scathing essay on the subject)
the insurmountable negative perceptions of her in the minds of half of the electorate
Hillary represents the best chance for the GOP to to retain control of the White House. Gore, Obama, or Edwards would all be better choices. She arouses such antipathy, whetehr for the right reasons or for the wrong reasons, that to nominate her would be colossally stupid on the part of the Democrats.
Salon shouldn't waste time defending her at this point. Her candidacy must be sunk. We can't let the GOP pick our nominee for us. We must stop Hillary!

Anti-Hillary Campaign
[Read the article: Will the real Hillary please stand up?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I would like to start an anti-Hillary campaign, but I do not have the chutzpah to think that I have much ability to do so.
And I did not mean to write "stupidtity" earlier.
That was the first letter I've posted under this name since Salon started requiring registration. I posted letters in the past, but under different names.
I am against Hillary's candidacy for the reasons I listed. I feel like the letter was pretty straightforward.
Hillary's negatives are the highest of anyone in the running right now. Those people with negative opinions of her are not Democratic primary voters, nor are they all staunch Republicans. Some of the men in my largely apolitical family have a hatred of Hillary that is irrational and unfair, but isn't going to change no matter what she says.
My dad hasn't voted in years, but says if Hillary gets the nomination, he would actually vote - against her! Of course he is just one guy, but I think she engenders those kinds of feelings in a lot of people.
I'll grant that the source of a lot of this hostility is anti-feminist backlash and/or resentment of perceived excesses of the 60's, but that does not mitigate the potential effect of all this anti-Hillary sentiment in a general election.
I'd really like to know who feels very strongly in favor of Hillary. What position has she taken that took a lot of courage? Has she ever stood for something that wasn't politically expedient? On what issue has Hillary been so great?
Someone, please enlighten me.
I also wouldn't put much stock in what GOP propaganda organs say about their suppossed fear of a Hillary nomination. If they feared Hillary as the nominee, would they admit it? If they wanted her to be the nominee, would they say they her to be the nominee? I can't say for sure, but I do feel that when I have watched cable shows, the GOP hacks have been very gentle in criticizing her, especially compared to how they villified her during the Clinton years and when she ran for the Senate in 2000. I believe that the GOP is smart enough to root for a Hillary nomination. If there is one thing the GOP knows how to gauge and exploit it is white male anger, and Hillary is great for fanning those flames. God save us from Hillary Clinton.

Oh Jesus
[Read the article: Hillary Clinton always comes prepared]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Are these Hillary supporting letters real? Most of the Democrats I talk to (though not all) feel close to same way about her as I do - that she has the establishment's backing but is unelectable.
By now we know that Hillary has by far the highest negatives of anyone running for President. My question is, what has Hillary done in her career that makes up for her inarguably high negative image in many people's eyes? Has Hillary ever taken a brave stand on behalf of a just cause when it wasn't politically expedient?
I urge everyone to read the essay "Senator Hillary Clinton: All Show and No Substance." Just google the title. The essay's scope is not wide ranging, but it does zero in on a particular aspect of Hillary's political cowardice and coziness with the establishment.
Maybe the real problem with Hillary is not her corporate friendly triangulated policy prescriptions (identical to those of her husband), but instead lies in her unelectability, despite said lame views. At least Bill was better than the GOP (by a tiny bit). A Hllary nomination is most likely to get us another four years of GOP rule.
Hillary is DOA in a general election. Considering that she is less electable and more conservative than Edwards or Obama (or Gore) and that she espouses worse policies, why would we want her as the nominee?
