First, Akon isn't a rapper, he is a singer. I'm not sure why he would be called a rapper if the writer did hear his songs. Second, is talking about sex in a song now misogynist? If so alot of songs throughout history need to be reclassified.
There appears to be some psychological need for whites to justify their own racist feelings and dismiss the history of racism as something that black people do also. You can see the hiding of their own racist feelings when they are always so quick to find one black person to give them cover. John Ridley sometimes provides this, other times they can point to Jason Whitlock and sometimes you can point to both. It seems to make whites feel good because they can all point to a black person saying it and just point to it and say "See you all really are messed up and it's not just me thinking it". This is really pronounced to me with this whole hip-hop debate. As far as any type of black racism is concerned, there is simply no way that you can compare the history of white racism in this country to whatever any blacks can say. Can blacks be racist? Sure, some can hate all white folks or other groups all they want but really where would that get any of them. It sure won't get them rich as some have prospered being white racists. Any bad joke, ignorance coming out of the mouth of any rapper, or comedian simply does not compare to the history of racism here in America.
No Oprah would not have made this comment in front of a group of white people, because she was not talking to white people. As hard as it is to believe, we do have different cultures. We say things for us to hear and think about that some people don't understand.
It would be one thing to fawn over a candidate but then ask some relevant questions on what they are going to actually do, it's another to fawn over a candidate and never even try to figure out what he truly believes and what he is truly going to do as president. It never ceases to amaze me when watching the pundits operate how they don't have any shame in having double standards for dems and republicans. They ask about Obama's experience this year and Edwards last election and ask why no specifics with the dem candidates plans but nothing of the such to the republican candidates. They probably know that if they asked detailed questions about where republican candidates stood(and also really reported it) the american people would not like it very much but they ask for detailed Dem plans so they can sit there on every show and ridicule them.
Glenn said: "The thought of replying to Taranto's "point" never even occurred to me. Taranto is baffled -- and thinks he has discovered a highly revealing disparity -- because it is news that the United States tortures people, whereas it is not news that Al Qaeda tortures people. What is there even to say about that? Why take up readers' time responding to an "argument" that, completely on its own, provokes equal amounts of disgust and scornful laughter? "
Unfortunately, I think at this point whenever someone comes out with more of this crap, it simply must be commented on. These comments by people are laughable; but way, way to many people believe them because people simply don't seem to realize how wrong these messages are. Everytime one of these "tough guys" opens their mouth, someone should be there to shut it however insane the idea they say. Way, way too many people just hear things like "torture, good" but never here that we as Americans hold ourselves to higher standards and therefore find the idea of comparing ourselves in any way to terrorists un-American. Until we realize and continually comment on the insanity that comes out these peoples mouths, people will simply continue to have their heads filled with this kind of wrong-headed thinking.
Ok, I don't get it. I've seen good playoff performances before that were very similar and often times better than this performance. If you want to say that this is the greatest performance by a 22 year old, that's fine but I don't get the one of "the greatest performances of all time" argument that I keep hearing. Good sure, maybe great but I'm not sure why everyone is exaggerating so. Lebron's Cavs are not overmatched by Detroit, Detroit did not seem to even try to play solid defense against him.
To the degree that this black fat preference is simply a determination to pooh-pooh anything "white," blacks need to grow up. If it's simply ignorance, well, now we know and when you know better you're supposed to do better. Sorry, brothers, but just as I learned to reject "hard bodies" that are the result of steroids, y'all need to reject "lard bodies" that are, at least in part, the result of slow suicide to please you.
Ok, now I'm supposed to only like black women's shape because I'm trying to reject white peoples preference? That is one of the most ignorant things I've ever heard. A grown black man cannot simply like a certain shape for the shape? What the hell does steroids have to do with a big ass? If you really went to the gym as you said, than you'd know that many, many black women work out but the ass is still there. Hell, look at Serena Williams and as she says:
"If I lost 20lbs, I'm still going to have these knockers - forgive me - and I'm still going to have this ass. It's just the way it is. I'm the same size and the same weight I was five years ago."
Guess What Debra, there's a pretty good percentage of healthy black women who just happen to have big beautiful behinds.
