I worked in a socialist country for a year. The middle class in a socialist country is miserable, cramped apartments, crowded streets, inflation etc. I worked at a univeristy at t5he post mdoctorate level--- the kids would do anjything to get out of there to come here. It is an effort to to get a postage stamp, one must report to the police any household move and on it goes. Check into a hotel and they keep you passport until departure.
