So what exactly is the problem?

Why is this a bad thing? Girls are owning up to the choices they made, and deciding to keep their children and raise them as their own. They are not aborting them or putting them up for adoption so someone else can raise them. They are growing up and behaving resposibly. What's the problem with that?

Is this for real?

WHO CARES??? So what if someone knows you like Butternut Squash recipes. Big deal. So what if they know what sites you visit. Besides, you are using a private company's website, you are not required to use Facebook. What do you people need to be kept secret so much? Privacy schmivacy!

Regardless, if you're over the age of 20, you're too old to be on Facebook or Myspace.

@AJB

...and I'm not ashamed at all! I'm proud of her!

But you make a good point, what it REALLY comes down to is people are uncomfortable with other people finding out about their "extracurricular" viewing and buying habits AKA what porn they watch. Do you really care if someone knows you like butternut squash?

p.s. Telling people what you bought them for Christmas is just dumb on Facebooks part.

@Interrobang

And if those people truly are your friends, they will standby you regardless of those things. They may actually be able to help you cope with them. Imagine that, sharing feelings with loved ones, and maybe getting something out of it.

Regardless (or irregardless), it was a bad move on Facebook's part, but does Moveon.org REALLY need to be involved? Isn't this nothing more than a poor marketing decision?

@Anonymous

Complete strangers have been seeing your purchases for DECADES now. The COMPANY you're buying from obviously knows what you're buying. If you're ashamed of something you're buying, then there is probably a reason why, and maybe you shouldn't be getting it in the first place. Sure, my list of online purchases might now be as titillating as yours, so maybe that's why I don't care who knows what I've bought.

Anyways, can't you just opt-out of the program?

@Anonymous

Man, you must look at some REALLY hardcore sites to get THIS revved up about all this.

I don't want to hijack this thread with insults, so I'll be brief. I don't care if "they" can see what I do/buy. "They" already can, whether you like it or not. Will I voluntarily opt-in to a type of program for free? Probably not, it's not worth my time.

You care if "they" do. That's fine, you can scream it from the rooftops if you like. That's the beauty of America.

Bottom line, this is how marketing works. They find out what products you buy, and then advertise similar ones to you.

@Lonewolfy

You make forums like this FUN!

1)The Baptist parents probably have internet filters to prevent their son from buying anything like that anyways, so its probably not an issue.

2)I'm not taking any International Studies courses, and I've been to plenty of sites pertaining to Islam and extremism. No problems or visits from the Men In Black so far, probably mainly because I'M NOT A TERRORIST, nor trying to be one.

3)I thought we were talking about Facebook, not the government. They haven't consolidated into a mega-corporation to best of my knowledge (or atleast not yet).

4)You're right. The 2nd amendment is there to fight against a tyrannical government. Just because we have a democracy doesn't mean it couldn't happen. Look at Bush, he's taken a few "extra steps" that some folk consider tyrannical. But don't worry. I don't own a gun. I can't. I live in Chicago.

Can a Muslim in a butcher shop refuse to sell pork?

This whole concept opens up all kinds of scenarios regarding religion in the workplace. It doesn't apply only to pharmacists. Can a doctor be forced to perform an abortion? Does an employer at a factory have to allow its Muslim employees enough breaks to perform their required prayers? Is there a limit to all this? Perhaps once it starts to become burdensome on the employer. But then you would be firing someone because of their relgious beliefs. I expect some kind of monumental court case perhaps limiting religious practice in the near future. I don't think this one is it, though.

Virtual Reality

I can't wait till they can just beam the Internet directly into our BRAINS! Who else is looking forward to being connected ALL THE TIME? Anything to escape real life. I love looking at glowing screens every waking moment.

AIDS Colony

Say they had done what he said and isolated all the people known to have AIDS. What would have happened? Do you think that there would quite possibly be a lot less people with AIDS in the US? Despite all the condoms and education, AIDS is still going strong.

60 Times More Likely to Have HIV

http://www.fda.gov/cber/faq/msmdonor.htm

Just to clear some facts up, as it is stated above, men who have sex with men are 60 times more likely to contract HIV, so trying to pretend homosexuals are not more prone to it is useless. That means 6000% more likely. Statistically speaking, thats HUGE.

Does homosexual behavior cause AIDS? No, but it does greatly increase the transmission of it (atleast in men). Despite gay men being the most active group in getting tested and education about AIDS, they still are the greatest at risk group.

Al Gore would be a FOOL to run for President. He's making way too much money selling global warming hysteria!
