@skunkeye...you are forgetting something
[Read the article: Bomb, bomb Iran?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The mythical war with Iran is just fearmongering on both sides.
While we do not have the ground forces to meddle with Iran, we DO have a Navy and Air Force that is far from "taxed". The Navy can launch aircraft and cruise missiles without batting an eye. The Air Force can send in B-1s and B-2s, and even B-52s if they get ambitious. There are, no doubt, morons in the Air Force (of which I am a member) that actually believe that they can "win" with air power alone. Air Force brass almost always believe that they can win wars with air power alone. They've believed that shit since the war criminal Billy Mitchell made essentially that claim. Not only are there Air Force brass who believe that shit, there are, no doubt, a number of them just itching to "prove it" by bombing the crap out of Iran.
There can be no doubt as well that Bush and especially Cheney believe the crap too...and are eager to give it a go. They do NOT learn from the mistakes of the past ("Shock and Awe" was a failure). They, no doubt, believe that ground forces in Iraq are safe from retribution by Iranian agents and assorted Iraqi Shia should they give a go to an attack on Iran. These are hardened war criminals and idiots, afterall. They don't give a flying f*ck how many civilians they kill, how many US soldiers get killed. Those are just numbers of no import to Bush and Cheney (and Hadley and Kristol and the other assorted nutcases).
You are underestimating our continued ability, regardless of the Army and Marines being stretched to breaking, to create murder and mayhem on a massive scale by other means.

@Che Pasa
[Read the article: The ongoing exclusion of war opponents from the Iraq debate]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The Americans blithely build military bases on top of the ruins of Babylon and Nineveh. How can this be even imaginable?
No doubt they take the crumbling bricks for landing pad ballast. Of course. There's such a ready supply.
You make me weep and rage at the same time with these simple statements.
When I first read of the base over the top of Babylon my gut felt hollowed out.
Soulless. Monstrous. Criminal.
No good can come from such rank disregard for the very cradle of ALL civilization. Ugly Americans come in and piss on the ruins of Babylon and spout nonsense about the people being nothing and having no culture, etc.
Words cannot convey...

Great video and discussion
[Read the article: What can and cannot be spoken on television]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]But Rose was REALLY pissing me off when he kept trying to put "we love America" words into his interviewee's mouths. He really was fishing for even a slight glimmer of a "thank you America!" from either guest and simply not getting it.
As for Jennings...someone should ask him what he thinks about his two "bad" phone conversations now at 5yrs and counting. His closing comment on the conversations was an understatement, "that not everyone will welcome us".
Duh. Do you think?
Bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran! Just think how grateful THEY will be!

@casual_observer
[Read the article: What can and cannot be spoken on television]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]So instead of the sweet blueberry syrup of disruptive freedom and liberty, citizens of neighboring countries in the Middle East may be thinking something quite the opposite--"things may not be great, but let's never let what happened to those poor Iraqis happen to us".
Bush tried to sell the idea that he was pushing freedom and democracy into the heart of the Middle East. Instead, he simply clogged the toilet and flushed. With all the crap he has packed into that baby, naturally it backed up and overflowed all over the place (literally and figuratively).
The other people of the ME, rather than seeking more of same for them prefer to keep their bathrooms clean and tidy. Bush has succeeded in making the United States = Shit for the ME AND the rest of the world.
Mission Accomplished!

Where outsourcing would be a great good
[Read the article: What can and cannot be spoken on television]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I say we outsource our broadcast news. Invariably, the Brits and Germans (der Speigel) do a MUCH better job of journalism than any Americans do. I think I would have to add Al Jazeera to the mix too. Superb journalism.

Ooops!
[Read the article: What can and cannot be spoken on television]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]good luck asking Jennings what he thinks now because he's been dead since August 2005 from lung cancer.
I had forgotten. But then again, I have long since quit watching ANY network news stations or programs.
I go for a very rare stint of McNeil News Hour and a scattering of Keith Olbermann, but beyond that, there is NO network "journalism" at all worth watching and NONE that can be trusted.
If only I got Al Jazeera on satellite then I could watch that.
I am left with non-MSM online sources of news now.
