is their anything else we can do?

Of course. There is the tried and true method used by our Founders to escape dictatorship. The birth of the USA that lasted from 1763 to 2000 came about by means OTHER than simply voting ineffectually for "change" (you could reasonably argue the end date of 2000 to be actually earlier).

The USA does NOT exist anymore. Any illusions that it did came to an abrupt end in September of 2001. The otherwise sedate tumble into authoritarianism became a free fall. Nothing has altered that free fall since. Certainly not the 2006 "election". You can also virtually bet the entire farm that the 2008 "election" wont change much either. The same old authoritarians that were in during the free fall (and even supported/encouraged it) will STILL be there.

There is more that can be done but too many people poo-poo the idea. Happily, such people weren't around in such numbers as they are today back in 1763. If they had been so widespread in the populace, we would remained under British rule (given their superior healthcare system, that would not be all bad).

  • As I always said

[Read the article: The Senate's FISA agreement]

The House is the only thing standing between the Senate and our Constitutional rights. It is (and always has been) the HOUSE that is the only hope to prevent immunity. Prevailing upon senators to obey their oath of office was a fools errand from the get go. ALL the Senators are, in the actual meaning of the term, traitors to the United States. They do NOT believe or hold to their oath of office, instead seeing it as a mere (minor) hazing ritual they must endure before getting into office to commit treason.

The only thing that will change the senate are nooses and gallows. They all need to hang.

They are all unfit to serve the American people.

They are all guilty of treason. Voting will not do anything, only the methods used by the Founders to secure liberty and independence will actually prevail - if the House fails to live up to their oaths too.

POUND the House with our demands that they actually uphold the Constitution, Bill of Rights, and the Rule of Law!

  • The fact is

I will absolutely vote AGAINST the Dems, from top of the ticket to bottom, if a FISA bill goes to Bush's criminal desk with immunity in it (and the other atrocities to the Rule of Law, Constitution, etc). I don't give a crap WHO the nominee turns out to be, I WILL vote ANTI-Dem if Bush signs a bill with immunity.

I REFUSE to reward treason and true criminality and cowardice.

Doubtful. I haven't researched it, but I would think that once Congress grants immunity, trying to undo it would have constitutional implications.

Doesn't this ONLY apply to criminal prosecution? They cannot do squat to prevent civil litigation can they?

  • No games?

I don't play games. Even when I was a kid.

Doesn't that make you a terrible mope or a psychopath?

  • Doesn't matter (much)

What precisely prevents this man from pardoning the Telecoms against our will?

A pardon is useless to prevent civil litigation. All Bush can do is prevent criminal prosecution with a pardon. By pardoning them pre-emptively (in particular) that gives ammunition to those bringing the lawsuits. Why pardon a non-guilty party?

Getting off didn't save OJ Simpson from massive, ruinous lawsuits. The Plames COULD sue the crap out of Libby if they wished to do so regardless of Scooter's pardon.

Civil litigation would promise LARGER damages than criminal punishment would.

  • Retroactive immunity!

[Read the article: Is Michael Mukasey prioritizing the harassment and imprisonment of journalists?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

This would be a prime time to legislate retroactive immunity to Risen and all unnamed sources that "supposedly helped Risen disclose illegal and unethical activities by the US government".

If immunity is good enough for felonious telecom companies, then it is certainly good enough from whistleblowers and reporters.

  • Rockefeller, you are an ass

So, he contends that because Al Qaeda has a safe haven in Pakistan and threatens the stability of Pakistan and Afghanistan (bullshit...Pakistan has its own home grown islamists, they don't NEED Al Qaeda to cause problems) and that obviously means the government needs to spy on Americans sans warrant or oversight.

Al Qaeda exists somewhere in the universe and threatens OTHER dicked up countries so this proves the need for warrantless spying on Americans. It bears repeating because perhaps with repetition, the logic of the argument will become self evident.

Hmmm. Nope. No logic, no reason. Senator Hysteric Rockefeller is a coward, an idiot, and a traitor to the United States and needs to be arrested and tried for treason. At EVERY turn he is trying to find a way to violate his oath of office.

A couple of "who knows" sources have claimed that OBL is not only dead, but has been dead for a few years.

Now now gc_wall, Osama will NEVER really die until his image is no longer useful for the regular "5 minute hate (and fear)" schtick. His visage, at this point, is still quite effective against the lessor Americans in the Congress.
