@GG...nice point
[Read the article: Harry Reid's pro-life stance vs. Ron Paul's ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Nonetheless, I do want to ask you this -- if the presidential election were between the pro-choice Rudy Giluiani and a pro-life version of Barack Obama or John Edwards, would you vote for Giuliani? Would you be willing to accept new wars, lawless detentions, no habeas corpus, torture, Guantanamo, brutal economic policies, etc. etc. -- all in order to have a pro-choice rather than pro-life President?
I would have to vote for the "anti-choice" candidate in this case AND ensure that this great harm was backstopped by voting to ensure a solid pro-choice majority in the Senate (at least) so that the anti-choice Prez would be ineffective in trying to foist his personal morality on the people.
If I had no chance of helping get a pro-choice majority solidly ensconced in the Senate to counter the Prez, then I would vote "other" for Prez.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Why would the Democrats put someone in that position unless -- using Dana Goldsetin's logic -- they were completely indifferent to the rights of half of the population?
Seriously, all of us know why they really did this (voting Reid as leader). It was part of the same old, flawed, stoopid, bullshit political calculus that makes the Dems (and pundits) say or act as if they need to be better Republicans than the Republicans. It is the reason the Dems disavow their base (while the GOP coddles and fellates their base). It is why Rahm Emmanuel worked against Ned Lamont in favor of Lieberman, why he works for GOPish immigration positions in spite of having a sizable hispanic population among his constituency. It is why the Dems repeatedly "fear looking weak on terra" and vote FOR war in various ways. It is political calculus. It is buying off the words of the Holy Pundits who think that everyone needs to be more GOPish to be serious and valid.
They didn't all get together and decide that they weren't really in favor of personhood for women, actually believing that personhood for a clump of undifferentiated cells is more compelling than for a fully formed, independent, thinking, acting, adult female. No. They deliberately picked a red state anti-choicer to prove that the Dem party is a better Republican party than the Republican party. It is the reason they do ANYTHING (and explains all the results).
That is the proximate cause of why Reid is the (inappropriate) "leader" of the Dems in the Senate.

Apostasy...
[Read the article: Reid and company target the true enemy: "Dodd and his allies"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]You know...this shit is almost enough (really) to make me swallow my gorge and actually vote for Ron Paul in 2008. IF Reid actually forces immunity through, then even if I do not vote for Paul I WILL vote actively AGAINST the Democrats. I will NOT reward this crap and will actively seek to forever sabotage them, rendering them backseaters with the defunct Republican party too. It would be nice if independent voters, the growing mass, would vote AGAINST the major parties and actually start seating 3rd party candidates (Greens, Independents, Socialists, etc) in place of Democraps and Rethuglicans. Take away their feeling of entitlement by forcing both parties to beg 3rd party members to caucus with them in order to get a majority, and in return, force the parties to give up the worst abuses of law and the Constitution.
Reid will NOT get immunity through goddamnit! NO NO NO NO! But if he does there really REALLY must be hell to pay. This isn't a small thing, this is a big deal. Reid must go and he MUST pay, along with his minions in the criminal cabal called the Democrap party.

@Svensker and others
[Read the article: Reid and company target the true enemy: "Dodd and his allies"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]And I was about to send Reid an e-mail thanking him for blocking Bush's recess appointments over the Christmas break. (To make up for the somewhat terse phone calls and e-mails over FISA.)
Please, all of you, do NOT do this. Do NOT give an "attaboy" to Reid. Honestly, he does no deserve it at all. When/if he does something right it is not because he got a flash of reason and light, it is to serve his own personal agenda and that agenda, as we can clearly see, is NOT an American agenda. Or at least not an acceptable American agenda. He is NOT a good guy. Any good deed he does is by accident - a roll of the dice or an example of a stopped clock being right twice a day. There is literally nothing in Reid to applaud or stroke.
ANY positive reinforcement sent his way will be misinterpreted as an "attaboy" for EVERYTHING he does or simply taken in as beside the point. Reid must GO. His minions must GO. He is unfit to lead, he is unfit for the Senate, he is unfit to serve in ANY position of authority.
