@comendatore

I just don't see a way out. We don't try battlefield combatants in American civilian courts as a matter of precedent, we can't simply declare them "de-Nazified" and let them stroll off, as we did with many Wehrmacht and SS personnel after the Second World War

Err...and why is it exactly that we cannot do what was good enough for FREAKIN' SS TROOPS?! Sheesh. The SS were the worst of the worst and we DID let them go rather than stick them all into indefinite detention or run them all through ginned up military show-triels.

We CAN simply let those go for whom we cannot prove a case (NO evidence gained by torture is permissible, not even as an unofficial basis upon which to rest indefinite detention...NOTHING gleaned by torture is legitimate or trustworthy). Done. Then, just like with actual criminal courts where a suspect (that is ALL these people are, by the way, SUSPECTS) is let go due to shoddy evidence or unconstitutional collection of evidence REGARDLESS of the crime involved and REGARDLESS of how certain the prosecutors are that the suspect is guilty. Then, IF the SUSPECT "terrorist" actually does go out and commit a terrorist act (or legitimately tries to) then you can make sure that you collect all your evidence against him within the full bounds of the Constitution, Bill of Rights, and our rock-solid treaty obligations (as per the Constitution!). Then you can get a legitimate criminal case going and actually get your SUSPECT convicted properly.

Until then, let them go or try them in a real court with REAL evidence.

Obama = LBJ

Obama is, guaranteed, a one-term president. He started right off the starting line to pave a way to a total failure as president.

He is LBJ when it comes to war and more war and more and more war. He is Hoover on the economy. Obama is a one-termer. I sure hope that the GOPers put up someone CLOSE to human in 2012 so that we aren't stuck with a younger Dick Cheney-type suffering from apocalyptic Palin tendencies.

Hell, maybe 2012 will be THE year for a 3rd Party candidate! At this point I would vote for Ron Paul rather than Obama or ANY "mainstream" GOPer. One this IS certain regardless. I will NOT be voting for Obama. At best that means I will simply not vote on a prez candidate come 2012.

The why is easy

There is money to made by a few people. People who make uniforms, weapons, military vehicles, body armor, ammo, and all the mercenaries (contractors). Then there is the other big money waiting in the wings: energy companies itching to build a pipeline through Afghanistan.

The rush is a gold rush by the same old corrupt criminals that push for any and all wars...they are the ones that NEVER EVER fight the wars.
