Wow, that might be the most dishonest, incomplete argument I've seen today. Congrats.
If you have to break the law, then break the law. Once a jury of your peers hears the circumstances, maybe you won't actually have to pay for it. None of that means you have to get rid of the law.
Glenn, you've done good work this week. Congratulations.
Actually, I shouldn't have said that. It might not be dishonest, but incomplete, yeah.
Now anonymous' post, THAT was dishonest.
King, loved the imagery. In fact, that was far more interesting than college football. Without a real playoff, why should I pay attention to this instead of, say, figure skating? They're both arbitrary, and some of the women are cute.
In fact, that's about the last bit of brain matter I'll pay to college football until next year, when people start talking about how stupid the system is.
Anonymust, thanks for the link to Fuller's stuff. That was pretty much what I've experienced too, but had never bothered to write down coherently.
Glenn, keep doing what you're doing. I think more people are paying attention as you're going on, and it's so much fun to watch these faux journalists squirm.
That letter writing campaign is a TERRIBLE idea. Let me repeat that, it's a TERRIBLE idea. It's creepy, it may be illegal, and seriously, do you really want to use RW methods? I thought the point was that we didn't do stuff like this, and didn't WANT people to do stuff like this.
Again, it's a TERRIBLE idea.
This is just a terrible decision, but if SI wants to do this, that's up to them. It sure doesn't mean I have to take it seriously though. Truth be told, it's been a while since I have.
I mean, if Brett is doing charity work, that's nice and I respect that, but so are a ton of other athletes. Some of them are better than he is at his own sport. Very odd choice.
Thank you. A human Houngan is what I strive to be from the second I wake up. Some days I achieve it.
Che Pasa - in my case, I hadn't read Time seriously for a very long time, not since I was a child and slightly less critical than I am now. I don't know how many other people are in the same boat, but from my perspective, this has been a surprise because I don't think about the magazine.
I've been following your discussion with Ondelette, and for what it's worth, I understand where some of your frustration comes from. That said, I do think that there's a real problem in saying "this worked for them, so this is what we have to do" though. I don't agree with the RWs about a lot of things, not just because I think that they are seriously messed up with what they want, but because I think how they're willing to go about it is wrong. I have a problem with their ethos and approach, and I reject that totally. I don't care that being thuggish (in all senses of that word) has worked for them; I'm not prepared to go that route. I'm not prepared to listen to people telling me that's the only way to win either; I think there are a lot of ways to skin a cat.
I don't think you have to go the same route the Repuglicans did to win things. In fact, I think I've lost if I do, whatever else I do. There are a lot fo really effective things you can do without being thuggish, or potentially breaking laws.
Of course, if the laws are bad, I don't really have a problem with breaking them. But I don't think it's unreasonable to expect that you're safe at home.
To repeat, the harassment route - TERRIBLE idea. Also, I doubt ti would be that effective, making it, like torture, a double loss.
Glenn, that second update is some of the funniest stuff I've seen in a while. Kudos.
I'm guessing grizzled war-veteran Jonah isn't the least bit embarrassed by the spectacle he's making of all of this though. I guess that's part of the point.
Really good article King, one of your best. Talking to Levy and Polian was the capper. Nice to know that what I thought is in fact true, talent trumps everything in the NFL.
I'm amazed at how many people wanted Vick dead, but don't seem to feel that way about people who cause thousands of people to die. I hope this changes Vick for the better, although it's hard to see how going to jail will do that, our prison system being what it is.
Bet that prison football team will kick butt though.
That's some of the most depressing stuff I've read in a very long time. Time to turn off all my lights and go huddle in a corner.
Then get to work trying to make things change.
That post of yours at 5:00 was pretty much the prettiest thing I've seen you write. thank you, that made me smile.
Thanks for your first two posts. They were thoughtful, intelligent, and well constructed, unlike several of the ones I've gone though here.
I think that Vick not only should be allowed to play again when he's done, but he will certainly get that chance. Isn't going to jail supposed to be the punishment? And for those thinking the NFL has to make a stand, well, as long as somebody can make them more money, they'll be given a shot to play, coach, or run a team.
Oh, and that comment about black culture? After reading that, I don't think I have to add why the reaction to Vick isn't just about what he did, but who he is.
It's just so hard to tell if you're making a joke, or if you ARE a joke...I'm leaning towards the latter. It's pretty funny either way.
