Original article: Time tries again

Juliebird

That, in a nutshell, describes several discussions I had with editors, back in another life. The whole "two sides to every story" is completely false, and wrong, and as long as they're trying to shove that down kids' throats in J-School, the longer this problem is gonna be around.

I'm sure that there are quite a few journalists who want to do the job right. Until there are more editors that let them, the MSM will continue to fail to be any of the things they claim to be.

I only wish the Net was as accessible 20 years ago.

It is fascinating

Crazy Lemon - it's also nauseating and frustrating, for those who've had to deal with it. This has always been true, I believe, and it's nice that every once in a while the spotlight gets put on this problem.

It doesn't make it any easier on the system though.

About that spread

Trust me, Winnipeg by 11 is a typo. They wouldn't be favoured by that much, if at all, if Glenn was healthy.

Wow, that explains a lot

Like, why the US has screwed the pooch so badly internationally if this attitude is common. Human rights should never take precedence over security? Did it occur to Tim that without human rights, security is NEVER assured? That you can't always make things safe, no matter what you do, but if you treat people like crap, you best believe you won't be safe sometime in the future?

I'm amazed to see such a ridiculous position on Richardson's answer. When did the neocons take over this mag?

He's looking at the wrong thing

Berkowitz should be less concerned with who hates Bush and a lot more worried about how many people are going to be hating America and Americans by the time Bush is gone. As large as the first number is, I think the second will be a lot higher.

Re: defense - yeah, i've noticed that too. When did it become acceptable for Americans to consider torturing, let alone, doing it? I never would have believed that would happen 10 years ago, I would have laughed aloud if someone had told me that.

grover nerdkissed

Honestly, if that story is true, I'm going to have to work hard to prevent myself from vomiting. That's obnoxious, short-sighted, and evil.

I have some questions

Why is this woman popular with her constituents? Does no one pay any attention?

Zack, that video made my morning so far. I don't think they're getting anywhere right now, but watching and listening to people who clearly see what the problems are always makes me feel better. I just hope they manage to infect others with their discontent.

Che

I thought your post was dead on. It's not better to have a competent person trying to do awful things. And i understand that politics deals with a lot of compromise, but when only one side is doing the giving, that's called enabling.

To be honest, I'm not sure the divisions in Washington are as clear-cut as most people think.

Climate change

Space you said, Svensker? I'm thinking a little further out than that, perhaps another dimension.

To say that was grossly off topic would be an enormous understatement. Wow.

Margalis

I totally agree with that. If they're not doing the job they're supposed to be doing, they're part of the problem and need otbe removed.

As a general question, what the heck was the climate change post? Where the heck did that stuff come from?

That quote was amazing. Isn't there some kind of requirement that you have to be able to distinguish reality from tv? If not, there really should be. When will any of the people running for office going to point out what a repugnant macho fantasy this is? I mean, besides McCain. Or is it just that they can't get the media to even cover the idea that torture is a path to failure, because you don't get good intelligence that way?

Schumer needs to get kicked to the curb, hard.

That's seriously what you're seeing here today? A bunch of people apologizing for the Democrats inaction last night? Really?

I must be reading a different thread.

Your post at 8:02? Well said.

This basically confirms what I've been thinking for a while. The United States isn't a functioning democracy right now, and a lot of work will beve to be done before it becomes one again.

Nice post Glenn, I share your outrage.

Original article: Crazy for Jay-Z

Hmmmm

Haven't listened to this yet, but honestly, I'm not expecting to be any more impressed than I was with any of his previous efforts. I've heard everything Jay-Z (so far) has had to say done better, and in more interesting fashion, by other people.

But I guess if you keep with the formula, you can keep selling. There are a lot of artists a lot more skilled, and more fun. Graderson, you listen to some of the good s#it.

RMP

Based on the model they were using, I'm volunteering right now to perform those searches. :-)

Jordan - noble work, but you realize you're not getting anywhere, right? But at least it's good practice for someone you can have an honest debate with on that question.

I guess if everybody agreed with the Democrats position, then they'd have no chance of getting elected...

Thanks for the clarification. I think you're right, martial law would be a very hard sell, and is probably unnecessary. I don't know about forestalling an election. I mean, why come up with a pretext for that when you can just cheat your way to victory? I guess the real question is whether that's something Bush/Ctheney control, or whether it's better for their corporate backers to get another Republican in there.

I'm pretty sure those guys could live with Giuliani or Romney.

I wouldn't bet on an election being postponed, but I think it's amazing that the US has gotten to the point where someone can bring up that possiblity and people will actual stop and think about it.
