Brilliant

Good post as usual Glenn. I hope this is something that people will pick up on, and really think about. I've had issues with Webb before, but I'll be very impressed if he keeps forcing this point.

"People love now to assume the role of super-sophisticated political consultant rather than a citizen demanding actions from their representatives." I think that might be the most accurate sentence I've seen you write, and perhaps the saddest as well.

Tuesday, April 21, 2009 05:59 PM

I'm actually worried for you Glenn

Did your tongue poke a hole in your cheek? This post cracked me up, bad. This couldn't have happened to a nicer person.

Sunday, April 26, 2009 10:38 PM

That's so sad

The fact that this debate is even taking place speaks to just how much trouble America is in. If this country doesn't find itself morally, it's got no shot at getting past the upcoming obstacles.

Well said, Joan.

Good post Glenn

Perhaps you could have thrown the word socialist in the title, just to really send Rush into conniptions...the hypocrisy is, by this time, expected, but still amazing.

Jim White, thanks for the poll link. It makes an interesting point to think about, regarding the inability of people to examine their own thought processes. I wonder if those evangelicals would realize just how far from the christian ideals their view on torture is if it was pointed out to them?

Friday, May 1, 2009 06:28 AM

My vote goes to Maggie Thatcher

I think she'd be pretty comfortable with the idea of torturing people. Brown people, anyway.

Friday, May 1, 2009 07:09 AM

@Poodleplay

You're right. I just keep forgetting what the "good book" actually is. My bad.

Sunday, May 3, 2009 08:43 PM

@Jebbie

That cartoon was fantastic.

Sunday, May 3, 2009 08:51 PM

@PDA

The scenario is credible because he SAYS it is. Don't you get it yet?

Sunday, May 3, 2009 09:21 PM

Oh, by the way Glenn

Great post. Sarcasm becomes you.

Monday, May 4, 2009 12:03 PM

Nice post Glenn, but...

I'm guessing someone's gonna go past this soon. If nothing else, recent history suggests a game of one-upmanship going on among politicians. My money's on Steele.

Love the sarcastic tone, btw.

Original article: Quote of the day

Guy's loony

That second paragraph is so illogical, only a Fool could have written it. Infohe must be missing so many brain cells, he doesn't even realize they're gone.

Monday, May 4, 2009 04:48 PM

@Little Brother

Good start to the letter. You owe me for a new keyboard though (I can never get coffee out of the damn thing).

Monday, May 4, 2009 09:21 PM

@Jebbie

I'm loving the show.

Tuesday, May 5, 2009 07:45 AM

Great post Glenn

Thanks for your thoughts on Sotomayor. Especially, thanks for the link to Adam Serwer's article, that was nearly perfect. I know a few people who need to read that.

Tuesday, May 5, 2009 07:54 AM

@ScottC

I'm going to refrain from my initial reaction to reading your post and just ask: did you honestly consider what you were writing before you hit "publish"?

Tuesday, May 5, 2009 11:18 PM

the Unlovely Truth

I'm curious: are you also The Fool? I ask because you have very similar arguing styles.

Friday, May 8, 2009 08:38 AM

But we ARE exceptional

Aren't we? Whomever "we" happen to be? Thanks for pointing out how ludicrous and hypocritical this argument is.

Friday, May 8, 2009 08:39 AM

@xychro

Are you even vaguely aware of how stupid your entire post is? I mean, even for something that's just a collection of lies and straw men, it's pretty bad.

Original article: "Terminator Salvation"

I'm wondering

What is the point of having Stephanie cover these kinds of movies? Good, bad, she dislikes almost anything that leans towards the fantastic. I could have written this for her.

Who knows, she might be right. I'm just saying, her report was really predictable.

Original article: "Terminator Salvation"

My question is

How do you describe a bunch of machines as totalitarian? She does know Skynet is a machine network, right? A computer program gone awry has political beliefs?

Like I said, she might be right about the film. I haven't seen it. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have assigned her to do it though.

Friday, May 22, 2009 01:22 PM

Seriously

Why is there even a debate about this? Does anybody really think this isn't torture? And who believes that this is the worst the US has done?

Wednesday, May 27, 2009 07:28 AM

Good

It sure seems obvious, but I'm glad there's a report out showing it's true. Another blow to the "24" fantasies of some people.

Thursday, May 28, 2009 02:25 PM

I can't decide...

This may be the toughest, most spirited competition for "Troll of the day" that I can recall seeing here. So many bad points made, so much obvious stupidity...makes the choice very difficult.

Thanks for the post Glenn. Really tears open the "empathy" argument that people have been flinging around. I wonder why people seem to think it would be a better idea to spout off BEFORE knowing what they're talking about?

Thursday, May 28, 2009 11:25 PM

Wow

Remember when Reallynow was saying "us liberals"? And now he's insulting people with "liberal breath"? (Seriously, what the hell does that mean?)

Maybe he'll be better at this with a few more days' practice.

Friday, May 29, 2009 07:59 AM

You make a good case Glenn

I'm pretty sure the counter-argument breaks down to "cases should be decided the way my gut feels they should."

Tuesday, June 2, 2009 05:43 PM

Why don't more people care?

I guess I really have another question. If Americans are going to tell the world, that people who have been tortured and jailed without any kind of representation, can die and no one will care, why should the rest of the world care about America? And contrary to what some of the blowhards who pop by here say, the world is too small for us not to care about each other.

Gitmo is an abomination. Not the only one, but it's there, and would be so easy to get rid of. At what point to we actually start to give a shit about other people?

Technobarbarians. I love that term.

Tuesday, June 2, 2009 05:45 PM

yeahOKsure

Tell me you're joking, and you're really not that stupid.

Tuesday, June 2, 2009 08:08 PM

@paulpsd7

Thanks for that. Looking through some of yeahOKsure's letters, that might have been one of his (or hers) more thought-out scribbles.

Original article: This Modern World

wow

That's funny, yet really painful at the same time.

Tuesday, June 2, 2009 08:28 PM

@rrheard

Come on, scanners was a classic. Don't you think it would be interesting to see if (name of favourite troll here)'s head would explode like Michael Ironside's?

Wednesday, June 3, 2009 04:21 PM

@harpie

Thanks for the link to that Post article. It was good reading.

Friday, June 5, 2009 01:42 PM

Baffling isn't a bad word`

Stupid is a better one, I think. I guess they think their audience are virulent racists. Somebody probably thinks its funny. The guy you e-mailed with can't possibly be that thick, can he?

Original article: This Modern World

Just about perfect

Really funny, and sadly accurate. Except for the Bill O'Reilly pics, definitely not splotchy enough.
