Dirigo

That's a good point you raised. The continuing shrinking of the pool of voices only helps the people who already control most of them...the country? Not so much.

Tuesday, April 8, 2008 07:19 AM

Maybe if you reverse the question

Petraeus might be able to answer it then. "How much more dangerous is this invasion making it for Americans?"

I doubt he'd care how much more dangerous it's made things for Iraqi citizens.

Tuesday, April 8, 2008 02:36 PM

That would be nice

I guess we'll just see.

I'll add to the comments of others. War Room seems a lot more interesting. Good job by Benen, I hope he manages to stick around for longer.

Pandyora

I think you hit the nail on the head. I was wondering the exact same thing...they just slowed down their offense, and for the most part, got terrible shots for the rest of the game. Not that Calipari affected his team quite the same team Guy Lewis did, but there was no reason for it. It really seemed like it was playing into Kansas's hands.

Hmmmm

How about we just go with, he's lying? That's the assumption I start with anytime someone from the administration speaks, and it serves me well.

Good work Glenn. I hope this gets more play.

Nice clip

Good work, Mr. Benen. I love watching administration weasels squirm.

Original article: The Starbucks economy

It's a good indication of what some have already noted

The economy is gonna get a lot worse before it gets better. I'm sure Bush will get a free pass for that too. Seriously, I question whether anybody could have done a better job of screwing up the US.

Thursday, April 10, 2008 02:37 PM

Wow

That would be fantastic if that happens. I'm actually stunned.

Friday, April 11, 2008 02:35 PM

Loved the analogies

By RMP this morning. Classic.

I hope that they put the AG's feet to the fire on this. I think everytime these guys lie, it should be pointed out, everywhere, again and again.

Friday, April 11, 2008 03:18 PM

Wow

That's easily the most upsetting thing I've read today. Stories like this just kill me, anybody who does this needs bad, bad things to happen to them. Soon. Repeatedly.

Joan

I thought this was one of your better posts. I think the amazing thing to me is, I can't see what was supposed to be so offensive about the comments in the first place. He's essentially saying that politicians have lied to people for a long time, and that many have stopped listening to economic promises from anybody as a result, paying attention to emotional issues instead. I'd bet a lot of money that's true.

Saturday, April 12, 2008 10:38 AM

Mr. Dirks

I don't think that stopping this is nearly enough. You'll just see them regrouping and trying again in another incarnation if there aren't serious repercussions to their actions.

Great post Glenn, and a very good point. Yoo is really just the a good starting point, and people should remember that fact.

Monday, April 14, 2008 04:53 PM

I've been asking the same question

And asking those same outlets that question. No answers yet. I'm holding my breath though, so I expect something soon.

Can you imagine the reaction you'd have received if someone had told you this would happen 10 years ago?

Original article: The rubes and the elites

You know, this is ridiculous

The President admits that he allowed people to be tortured and THIS is what Salon is wasting it's time with?

When America continues it's downward slide into ugly economic collapse, perhaps people will continue talking about bowling scores, and whether they're "bitter". I'm guessing a few more people will be.

I used to think this place was really good at talking about issues, not repeating stupid talking points. Why is nobody talking about the fact the McCain is showing increasing signs of senility?

I have no idea what is going through the editors' minds here. They're doing a lousy job though.

Monday, April 14, 2008 11:21 PM

Glenn

I have no idea how much you read the rest of this site, but you're just about the only political voice here who hasn't lost their mind over the past couple of months, and you'll be alone once Steve Benen leaves War Room. I can't believe how vacuous some of these articles have been.

Ordered your book, looking forward to reading it.

Monday, April 14, 2008 11:38 PM

Sysprog

Thanks for that post. I know some people who should read that, and will, now.

Tuesday, April 15, 2008 08:50 AM

I hope he would

I doubt he'd investigate as vigorously as I would like him to, but there's so much dirt...I don't think America has any chance of regaining the white hat, even in its own eyes, unless some of these people get prosecuted.

I'd love to see the Administration punished the way it should. Mass murderers should get punished.

Thursday, April 17, 2008 05:31 PM

I wish this surprised me

But this is pretty much business as usual. I'm surprised that anybody in Washington is even paying attention. Not unhappy, but surprised.

Sunday, April 20, 2008 06:17 PM

Good Lord

This might be the most pointless and pessimistic articles I've read in a very long time. The fact is, the Democratic candidate, whomever it happens to be, is going to be on the right side of American popular opinion on almost every issue out there, and all the important ones. They'll be clearly more competent that McCain; not the hardest thing in the world, but still, an advantage. What's the point of an article talking about this gloom and doom from the past?

Is the author trying to argue that there's no way for the Dems to win? Or that the party can't learn from previous mistakes?

Original article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily

The rioting was ridiculous

There's simply no excuse for that, and like King said, for the first round? In Montreal? I couldn't believe it when I heard that.

I actually think that Crosby is a better overall player than Ovechkin, but Alex is a better natural goal scorer. These guys are going to be making big plays for years.

Tuesday, April 22, 2008 08:24 PM

Mr. Hutman

What makes you think Cytheria is a Clinton supporter? She's a McCain troll. She's said as much. Why even bother talking to her?

Tuesday, April 22, 2008 11:23 PM

I don't get it

Why is anybody bothering about what Cy45 has to say? She's already admitted she's a McCain troll, which means she's either crazy or stupid, and arguments with people like that are a waste of time. Her only role here is to poison the discourse, which she does moderately well. That's all.
