I don't know why, but I was surprised that someone would say that not following the rule of law was somehow better for national healing. I guess the lesson Shapiro is trying to make is that it's more important to ignore terrible things done by important people than to hold them accountable for their actions. I think he's very, very wrong.

I think this lesson has been taken to heart by the current administration. And for the record, I've pretty much considered America a banana republic since the 2000 "elections".

Well, there, technically, for me. I don't know how Americans have stood for this for so long. From a foreign perspective, I can tell you that many people think you're living in a "banana republic" now, and have been for over 6 years. They tried to steal an election in the Ukraine and failed, but it's happened twice in the US, and nobody's done anything about it.

Your leadership is the most dangerous in the world today, if only because of the power your country has. And between the economic, military, social and environmental damage your leaders have already done, it will take America years to recover. If it ever does... you have two more years to go, and I don't see anybody really willing to put a stop to all this.

I don't know Sharonelle. Would lynching count? I think that's probably as bad as a decapitation. How about dropping a nuke?

You probably aren't aware that there are Muslim charity organizations, such as the Red Crescent, that are busy in many parts of the world. Take a look before you start making blanket statements the way you did, it just makes you look foolish. From the tone of your letter, I'm pretty sure you weren't thinking clearly anyway.

In the United States, there are a lot of people who have been rounded up, for being Muslim. At least, since most of them haven't seen any kind of due process, one can only assume there's no real crime to charge them with, after all these years. And yes, people are getting tortured in the name of your country right now.

Of course, that's not the same thing as a religion doing it. But then, if you're going to bring up actions that you say are caused by Muslim nations, I don't think you can just paper over the actions of your own country the way you do.

The real mistake you're making is by trying to make an entire group of people responsible for some people who belong to their group. Of course, people belong to many groups. It's just not that black and white in the real world. Maybe you're the one who should take a look around.

Perhaps you kind people can explain something to me. How is it that anybody ever believed this fairy tale in the US? There were articles all over the world talking about how impossible that Sadaam could have been working with Osama, that there was no way Sadaam could have had any program worth worrying about, let alone weapons.

How did the US get so distracted from actually going after terrorists?

King, this was the best column you've written in a while, and I like your work. The thing about this incident is that for a lot of fans I'm talking to, this series is quite possibly the straw that broke the caml's back. The way Stern and the league office have dealt with a lot of incidents is killing my interest in the league, and I've been a fan for over 30 years.

But there's college basketball to watch. There are the world championships when they happen. And you know, at this time of year, the NHL playoffs are pretty good. I really don't have to watch the NBA. And I'm not sure how much longer I will.
