Unfortunately, Disney lost two viewers to this highly-anticipated movie when my husband and I started to hear about how the Christian Right is encouraging member churches to buy up block tickets to get their members to see this movie. I have very fond memories of reading all the Chronicles as a child and I have read them to my own children over the years. I had been excited to see such an apparently wonderful screen treatment of one of my favorite childhood memories. Right up until I started hearing the 'buzz' from the Christian Right. That did it. "The Chronicles" has apparently been hijacked by the fundies and any movie they want to send their members to see is something I will avoid. We may, at some point, catch it on cable but we won't be buying the video and we will not be supporting the movie at the boxoffice.
How about Ron Perlman?! Can't get much more macho or bad-ass than his Hellboy character!
I have felt for a very long time that Ron Perlman is one of the most under-rated, under-utilized American actors on the scene today. I am SO pleased that Mr. Del Toro felt only Perlman could do justice to Hellboy and that Perlman is proving him right! I can hardly wait to see the film this weekend! Perlman and Dotrice together again! Fantastic!
If the World Championships award gold medals to gymnasts who have tie scores I don't see why the IOC had to change their rules. Liukin was outstanding. He was also outstanding and if they received identical scores, they should have each received gold.
And who on earth is going to believe He is 16? LOL! Give me a break! That child isn't over 13 - 14 tops! Oh yes, the IOC uses passports to verify age. And a passport has never been fraudulently altered, right? Right!
I can't remember when I was prouder of America than I was last night as I watched that beautiful woman, standing in front of the entire DNC, enchanting everyone who listened to her. Michelle Obama is everything a First Lady should be and I hope that I will be able to watch her hold the Bible for her husband in January as Senator Obama becomes President Obama.
I was so PROUD to be an American, living here today! Last time I felt like this I think was when we landed a man on the moon for the first time. Michelle Obama was grace personified up there last night. She held the entire DNC and probably a large portion of the viewing audience in the palm of her hand.
I am a working Mom and a wife and her words resonanted with me. What did I think? I think Michelle Obama will make one awesome First Lady and I sure hope America has the chance to watch her, and Senator Obama, in action come January! We need change and we need it now! Michelle Obama is the breath of fresh air we all need to get rid of the stale air that will be left over from the Bush administration!
For whatever it is worth, I spent a morning last weekend in Glencoe, Illinois for my high school reunion. Glencoe, one of the fabled "North Shore" suburbs of Chicago, has a fairly good proportion of Jewish voters living there and as I drove through the village I saw ONLY Obama/Biden lawn signs. I honestly did not see a single McCain/Palin lawn sign although I assume there were some somewhere. Along the ultra-prosperous Sheridan Road, which hugs Lake Michigan I saw many estates and McMansions sporting Obama/Biden lawn signs behind their wrought-iron fences. And as a Jewish female voter in the age group "60 and over" I support Senator Obama and Senator Biden 1,000%. I do not see that there is or ever was a "Jewish Problem" except, perhaps, in the altered-reality perception of the repulsican party.
I am still hoping I will get a pass to Grant Park. Unfortunately, by the time I consulted with my husband as to whether or not he wanted to go (he did), all the passes were gone and I am on the Wait List. I also am in the raffle for a backstage pass, so I am holding out hope that I will be in Grant Park tonight. If not, I will be glued to my TV here at home. Our daughter, who lives here, will most likely be with us and we will probably also be calling back and forth to our daughter in Colorado (who is going door to door today to get out the vote for Senator Obama. She is in Fort Collins and saw the Senator last Sunday). I don't anticipate heading for bed until a call has been made, prayerfully for Senator Barack Obama to be our next President. Incidentally, our local elementary school voted yesterday for President and Senator Obama won by almost a 2-1 margin. The last two presidential elections went to Bush. This is the heart of Republican country in Lake County, Illinois and I find that children usually reflect their parents political views. This year they are all voting for Senator Obama! And our polling place had twice as many voters waiting in line at 6am as in the past several elections, according to an Election Judge I spoke to. All very good news for Senator Obama!
