Well, not really

I have to say I am a raging feminist, have been for years and I will be voting for Obama. My mother is conservative and I don't now who she'll vote for. When I first heard that Obama was running I thought he was insane. Of course I was going to vote for Hillary. Unfortunately I have not been able to get over all of the usual politico speak that keeps coming out. Geraldine Ferraro was the speaker at my college graduation. That was something I was honored by and it's now embarassing. I'm a breast cancer survivor and I heard all about Hillary's plan for breast cancer. And it sounds great but I just don't believe it. All this from a 40 year old white woman.

I thought by the time a woman was really up for the nomination it was going to be because things had really changed. Unfortunately Hillary appears to be a regular politician in a skirt and honestly, that makes me kind of sad. If in some bizarre shift she is the nominee than I'll vote for her but it won't be with the sense of hope that I'll vote for Obama.

Catfights?

I love Salon, especially Broadsheet, but I don't even know why you're reporting on this. first of all it's not an article in the L.A. Times, it's an article in the L.A. Times blog where the blogger "Muses on the Culture of Keeping Up Appearances in Hollywood and Beyond".

I blog (www.aftercancernowwhat.wordpress.com) and I know that the best way to get people to read your stuff is to throw some stuff in that is "controversial" or hits the right tags. These are spoiled children that are being reported about and a gigantic waste of time on the past of Broadsheet.

I've fought through cancer at 38 and found that it was girlfriends who got me through it. Drove me to and from chemo, brought me trashy books, made bald jokes. The lucky thing is, if I had had cancer 10 years ago, they would not have been there. It takes time to grow up and it takes time to learn how to be a friend. I just hope these young women get the chance to grow into themselves and their friends.

But I'm not mysogynistic

See here's my problem. I'm a 40 year old, college educated white woman. I went to Obama's event in NC and Hillary's event in NC and I'm with Obama. I can't bear the thought of the Clinton's (who I voted for) being in office again. Maybe it's just Clinton fatigue. Of course, I've also been unable to forgive Hillary for her complete ability to state that voting to go to Iraq was a mistake. I fear at this point that her campaign is increasing the possibility of a McCain presidency. I really hope I'm wrong. -Kate -

How about some real medicine?

I work with young children with disabilities and some of them use Botox. For their wrinkles? No, to allow them to use their limbs and decrease spasticity. To help them feed themselves and control spasms. I think if people could get out of their self involved shells that the world could really change. I am 40 years old and a breast cancer survivor so I am a little freaking sick of hearing people complain about wrinkles. I've got a few, I've earned them and I plan to keep them.

Join the club

You've said it all and you've said it well. I'm a 15 month cancer survivor at age 40. I've got a husband and small kids and wonder what I am supposed to be doing as well. I read articles about survivors who are climbing Everest or are changing their lives and feel trapped sometimes. I have to work for insurance. It's that simple. I wonder sometimes if the reason we don't have universal health care is that the government is afraid we'd all quit working if we didn't need the insurance. The depression is real and you are not alone. Find a therapist for some short term work if you can and hang in there. There are message boards and groups, some very serious, some funny. There are lots of blogs and that is what I've found to be helpful. I'm at www.aftercancernowwhat.wordpress.com

Is torture an olympic event

Thank you for your article. I too have chosen not to watch the Olympics this year and agree that China should not have been chosen. While I agree that they Olympics are supposed to be a time that politics can be put aside we are looking a human rights violations. No free speech, freedom of religion, freedom of assembly, freedom for redress of grievances, freedom of movement, freedom of the press. I could make a list that goes on and on. Thanks, it's good to see others feel the same.

Hard as adults

I have supervised many adults in my career. The two that standout in my mind? Velveeta and Deathwella. I'll bet they stay in your mind today as well.

Yo Gabba Gabba

Confession, I'm not sure who likes Yo Gabba Gabba more, the kids or Mom and Dad. The first time we saw Biz Markie with Biz's beats we were in love. Thanks a million for giving another musical example that is not sampling, we love it.

Democrats for Palin

I wrote a piece about this prospect on my blog just a day or so ago. We have to make sure she stays on the ballot. The ramifications of the race if she is removed are massive and could completely change not only the tenor but the results of the election.
