If you believe Glenn Greenwald is a "liberal", you obviously have either not been reading his blog much or have absolutely no idea what a "liberal" is.

Also, I'd like to add that your point about cable companies being free of using pubic airwaves, is false. Cable companies get their input (programing which is not locally produced) over the public airwaves. Their method of transmitting their product is different than the so-called "broadcast" networks, but without the use of public airwaves, their product would be limited to what they could produce locally. That's hardly a strong basis for turning a profit in their business.

You're thinking of a time where the publisher was the highest ranking dog in the kennel. Nowadays, publishers report to coreporations which earn far more money through other-than-journalistic-establishments than they do from ownership of a mere television network. For example, if you were to give General Electric the choice of dumping their manufacturing arms or their media arms, which do you think they would jetison?

The General Electrics use their media (news) arms to enhance the profits of their other interests. Thus, General Electric's Board of Directors should certainly be pleased with their media arm promoting something which will earn their manufacturing arm more money.

This stands REGARDLESS of their share of the viewing (or reading) audience. They're using news (and the established "trust" that our news people formerly earned, to advance their other interests.

Would you trust the General Electric Network to give you an unbiased report regarding jet engines? Well, that's precisely what is happening when you (royal you) trust the GE owned network which happens to go by another set of initials.

BTW, his interview on Olberman last night was outstanding. Olberman did a good job in the interview and McClelland came across as someone who obviously has given much thought to his claims and also as someone who is trying very hard to state accurately what he knows and doesn't know.

I suppose it's posted someplace by now. If you can find it, it's worth the time.

That would seem to indicate that they are already on their way to being screwed up.
