You hit the USAF problem on the nose. It's run by fighter jocks.

There's an old saying around pilot lounges that reveals how things work in the airforce and, to a lesser extent, the US Navy....

Fighter pilots make movies.

Bomber pilots make history.

It comes as no surprise that the biggest, baddest scandals involving the military have involved...you guessed it....fighter jocks.

We don't need more fighters. We don't need more bombers. We need more trash haulers like the C-130 which can be reconfigured for relief missions as well as combat.

What the fuck good is an F22 stealth fighter when you're fighting what amount to basically nomadic goat herders.

My apologies to any Iranian readers. I was not thinking about Iranians in my earlier post, knowing full well that Iran is nowhere near being a nomadic society. It's a shame that more Americans don't know diddly squat about the country their leadership wants to bomb back to the stoneage.

If more Americans would Google some visuals Iranian society, perhaps they would change their view toward what us a very advanced society.

The History Channel and The Military Channel both do a decent job with some of their programs highlighting military life, although The Military Channel tends to "glorify" the "elite" forces such as Rangers, Green Beenies, Seals, etc.

One thing that does require some attention, and this relates to the Air Force discussion regarding their budgetary struggles, and it just burns my butt to see each and every service decide they need a "Special Ops" department...which is precisely what the Goldwater/Nichols reorganization was supposed to stop.

Why does the USAF need Air Commandos (or whatever they call them) when both the Army and Navy both have SO organizations? (Of course, a Marine will tell you that ALL Marines are SO qualified, LOL)

This coincides also with my earlier comment about buying F-22's by the gross to fight "terrists" while at the same time making the trash haulers pull their hair out trying to upgrade the C-130/type airframe.

It just doesn't make sense from a taxpayer money standpoint but makes excellent sense if one is on a USAF career path.
