[Read the article: Ken Pollack: Al Qaeda is a great "catch-all" term]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Upon reading that article, I was immediately reminded of Douglas MacArthur's fairwell speech which he gave at West Point.
"You are the leaven which binds together the entire fabric of our national system of defense. From your ranks come the great captains who hold the nation's destiny in their hands the moment the war tocsin sounds. The Long Gray Line has never failed us. Were you to do so, a million ghosts in olive drab, in brown khaki, in blue and gray, would rise from their white crosses thundering those magic words: Duty, Honor, Country."
The entire theme of the speech revolved around those 3 words, Duty, Honor, Country.
These commissioned officers, retired all, have soiled the service(s) which they served, presumably honorably, by not only participating in these shenanigans, but by profiting from doing so. I had a good friend who attended West Point and one of the things he always mentioned when describing the environment there was that one of the most serious violations of the Code was to lie. Some, maybe most, of these retired commissioned officers probably never attended West Point, Annapolis, The Air Force Academy, or their civilian counterparts at such places as Norwich and The Citadel, but I can say with almost 100 percent certainty that they ALL were familiar with MacArthur's plea....a plea which they have violated, over and over and over.
To what end? To what end have they despoiled the reputation of the entire officer corps of our military? Somehow, those rows upon rows upon rows of white grave markers at Arlington and in other cemetaries across the entire globe, seem to be drooping a little...like white flowers denied water.
I've included a link to the entire fairwell speech in my signature.

Yes, or No.

It's a shame that you can't claim the same or better record.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm not a fan of MacArthur, William, but his words at West Point were true, albeit rather hypocritical.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]What would really be delightful is if, in the interest of competition and market share, we were to actually see print media go on the attack and do more to expose cable for the farce it has become.
A guy can dream, can't he....?
In many cases, they are owned by the same folks. I doubt if we'll see a Murdoch owned WSJ going after Murdoch owned FOX.
Thank Colin's boy, Michael.
Incest is best.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]"So what does it take to disqualify a former general from on-air analysis?"
Lack of honesty would be a good place to start.
Lack of objectivity would be another.
An obvious conflict of interest would be another.
It's really not hard to figure out the answer to that question, Ari.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]But, I could be wrong, and surely you'll offer the precise statute which prohibits it. Or, someone else can/will produce it.
Don't hold your breath.
But wait!!
Maybe we can petition that a Courts Martial be convened for John McCain (Capt.USN-Retired) for his criticism and disresectful comments directed at former CinCs Bill Clinton, or his criticism of the strategy of George H.W. Bush, and even, if we're blessed, current CinC George W. Bush.
That would be interesting.
Let's hope that this guy comes up with the details.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Fortunately the mind is still humming along satisfactorily. ;-}
Not really. The corticosteroids I am currently taking (prednisone) really make the mind rather mushy and while it may be difficult for others to recognize this condition in my, I am acutely aware of it. It also makes the monitor screen jump around and twitch so it's rather hard to read stuff.
It took me about 5 minutes to write this simple post and most of that time was spent making corrections for spelling or fyslectic dingers.
Oy.
Were you a mail order bride?

[Read more letters about this article: Here]That article concerns an active duty officer, not a retired officer.
No one is disputing that active duty officers have certain obligations to refrain from dissing their civilian (or military) bosses in public, that's a given.
The officers in question, are all retired and although they are drawing retirement pay and allowances, they do not come under the jurisdiction of the UCMJ prohibition.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]"These writers are exciting because they're unapologetically, un-defensively liberal..."
I would suggest that Glenn Greenwald has never claimed to be liberal and I would also suggest that if asked, he would deny being a liberal.
If a "liberal" administration were abusing the constitution in the manner that this neoconservative administration is doing, I'm quite sure Glenn's commentary would remain the same and thus earn him the sobriquet "Rightwinger", from liberal circles.
If I were to be forced to describe Glenn's political affiliation, the best I could come up with is that he is a Constitutionalist Patriot.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Pedinska told me to ignore you as being an idiot, but I just can't bring myself to do so.
If Oprah described an Abrams accurately, her description would be fine and dandy. If General Malise, however, described an Abrams as a fine boat, you would probably hook your sorry ass to his description and link the sonofabitch all over the internets as being the embodiment of excellence.

and therein lies your problem. If you would listen to her, you wouldn't portray yourself as an imbecile with a room temperature IQ.
If you aren't getting paid for being stupid, you're missing your calling.
