  • Thanks Glenn

Glenn is absolutely correct about breaking through the media blockade to take the case for America directly to the people.

One would think that these Pillars of American Journalism would be crawling all over each other to investigate and disclose activities such as this. Today, however, it seems that they spend more time in lines at Washington cocktail parties alongside those who should be their objects than they do seeking out actual news. Whether it's the fault of the nitty gritty journalists themselves, or of their publishers, I know not. The only thing I do know is that the American people are not being well served by those who comprise the "4th branch of our government."

    Speaking of which.....

As we apparently rush headlong into yet another war based upon misinformation, I'd like to point to today's column by Juan Cole regarding Ahmadinejad. It's topic is central to the argument.

I just wish that Salon would require that each troll register with a unique screen name so that we can tell them apart and hold them to their previous statements.

    IOW, no Publish Anonymously option.

  • One final question

[Read the article: Standards of American justice under George W. Bush]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

If, at the time of our invasion of Afghanistan, the Taliban was the legally recognized government of that state, why would those persons fighting for the Taliban be considered as Unlawful Enemy Combatants?

Also, if al Qaeda was engaged by the Taliban to fight for it (similar to Blackwater employees in Iraq), why would non-Taliban al Qaeda fighters be considered as Unlawful Enemy Combatants?

I'm not trying to start an argument about this but I am interested in opinions because, IMO, the answers to the above are central to a discussion relative to Geneva.

    3) Does the President unilaterally have the right to determine when a foreign entity is or is not a party to the Geneva conventions? I think he's the first one who has ever asserted that if we don't recognize a government, the fact that the country they govern has signed the conventions doesn't make them a "High Party".

Now I'm really confused. If we didn't recognize the Taliban as the legitimate government of Afghanistan prior to our invasion, why would we have communicated with them regarding our desire that they turn over bin Laden (or else!)? Were we just writing them notes (It's my understanding that we sent formal diplomatic notes to the Taliban demanding that they turn over binLaden.) or did we, in fact, not recognize them as the legitimate governing force in Afghanistan and just send the notes to be nice? Didn't other governments formally recognize the Taliban as the government of Afghanistan?

Helen Thomas should receive the Medal of Freedom!!

If we had 10 reporters in Washington whose combined integrity was that which is possessed by Helen, we wouldn't be in the shape we're now in as a country.

    Thank you, Helen.

" 2) That he did not understand that "blindsiding" is the Press' job."

Perhaps he also failed to understand that it was his job to see that the President has answers to questions that are apt to come up.

Maybe they should hire that nitwit Gregory. All he needs to qualify for the job is a flat head and kneepads.

"Bush apparently feels that it's to his advantage to avoid telling the truth, and instead to tell something else which ain't so."

he's been lying to us for over 6 years (8 if you count campaign time).

I think this one is going to come back to haunt him though.

There are, regretfully, other anonymice out there giving you a bad name simply because they are dumber than doorknobs.
