The greatest longshoreman/philosopher who ever walked the planet.
Thank you for reminding me of him, WT.
"....may be building now, based on questions about his ability to garner trust with military leaders."
I would suggest that it is the military leaders who should be concerned with garnering trust from Obama, not the other way around.
"@ shooter242Your lapel pin is crooked."
The lapel pin is straight.
It's his head that is cockeyed.
Your confusion is easily understood however. Generally, Shooter's head is up his ass, so it's not often that one is able to discern the relationship between his head and his lapel pin.
"I can't find my feelings right now - they are trapped and muzzled somewhere between half-gasping bewilderment and paralyzing horror at the sight I have just witnessed on MSNBC's Neverending Coverage of Chris Matthews attempting to fellate Tim Russert via satellite, in the greatest multi-media, truly virtual-reality simultaneous orgasm of vanity televised since David Blaine suspended himself inside the transparent walls of his own ego above a bottomless Nielsen Ratings pit with nothing to eat but his own recycled self-reference."
By God, if they gave Oscars for Best Post of the Year, I'd be honored to nominate this one.
It is truly a classic.
Bravo!, DCLaw1, BRAVO!
"Farrakhan has about 75 or 80 percent name recognition in America and Hagee about one."
Why do you think this is the case?
The answer is in Glenn's article, Wes. Read the black parts.
"Note that McCain did have to repudiate the talk show host in Ohio, but he wasn't ordained, so he could be dismissed."
A minor note point but McCain was not asked, nor did he repudiate the talk show host. He repudiated what the talk show host said and even then, limited his repudiation to the use of Obama's middle name. He didn't repudiate refering to Obama as a "hack Chicago-style Daley politician" or the other smarmy remarks Cunningham made.
To do that, would have been a repudiation of many, if not most of the remarks made daily by right-wing radio talk-show hosts like Boss Limbaugh.
Of course, had McCain done that, it would have given the media the excuse to replay the original remarks and those of other RWNs over and over and over....as they are now doing with Cunningham's vomit.
"Even assuming that this assertion is correct, it reinforces rather negates Glenn's point. Farrakhan's better name recognition is a direct result of the double standard Glenn's points out, not it's cause."
Dammit, Man! You gave away the answer. I was hoping that WES might be forced to actually read Glenn's article to get the answer.
And wasn't it Belafonte who sang,If religion was something that money could buy,
Then the rich would live and the poor would die.
All my trials...
I believe that was Peter, Paul and Mary. It's in their "Around the Campfire" album.
"I Suspect Mardi Gras has a strong gay component."
You would suspect wrong.
While gays and lesbians celebrate Mardi Gras along with straights, their contribution and/or participation can in no way be considered "strong".
About the only thing remarkable about gay particiation in Mardi Gras is their small, but wildly enthusiastic, parade in the French Quarter on Mardi Gras Day. The costumes attract quite a crowd, but it's a friendly crowd albeit one that more resembles a crowd of people at the zoo watching zebras screw.
You may be thinking of the "Southern Decadence" festival which is another thing altogether.
Jesus Saves!, Dude.
"(Yum again.)"
It would appear that we have similar tastes in either music or women.
Perhaps both.
"I tailor my message to my audience.."
Please tell the truth here, YRH.
If it weren't for the war on drugs, you'ld pass for Marcel Marceau here.
Of course, he's also a Major pain in the ass occasionally.
Still, it's nice to see that they paroled him in time for Easter.
"Tinfoil hat time?"
Hagee must have been working the Celestial Hotline hard to get to Glenn's laptop this soon. It's either that or Glenn ate meat yesterday.
Maybe Glenn can appeal to His New Best Friend, Father Donovan, to perform an exorcism on the machine.
There is a typo in the middle of your post which, although I normally do this privately, needs to be corrected.
You wrote: "And that's exactly what makes Kurtz such a representative figure for the industry he "criticizes."
It should read: "And that's exactly what makes Kurtz such a reprehensible figure for the industry he "criticizes."
You're welcome.
Pedinska, look in the secret place. ;)
"I'm also reminded of Ronald Reagan consulting the fine true science of astrology for guidance on the timing of imporant decisions. When is a good day to sign a nuclear arms treaty? Saturn knows. Invading grenada on your mind? Let Mars tell you when."
In fairness, it was not Reagan hisownself who used astrology, it was Nancy.
Of course, if Reagan hisownself decided to allow Nancy to balance his schedule based upon her astrological readings, then I guess he's fair game.
That's Ronnie, Fair and Balanced.
"My argument is journalists are just doing a job - they'll take the perks while they can, and they'll take a chance to get ahead if they can - and if that means digging McCains grave then they won't hesitate."
In addition to being your argument, does the above also describe your ethics?
"Why would The Politico just ignore all of that to create its "Americans-love-the-war-again" narrative?"
It's been my contention all along that The Politico was founded expressly to be a Republican Party mouthpiece. Any news it may generate or report on is merely a sideline to its actual mission.
Why else has this relatively new organization been able to take off and fly while other, more mature, news organizations have floundered financially?
Don't stay away for so long next time.
That law professor didn't happen to be from Knoxville did he?
