even if it goes nowhere but to inform the public of the crimes this executive is involved in, so the process is what is vital not necessarily the actual act of impeachment itself.Jebbie mentions how these things must be established through a consensus and therefore takes time to organize which would be true in a corrupt free government enviorment which of course we do not have. If you have not noticed jebbie the American publics attention span is about 15 minutes and the consensus for establishment of a majority for impeachment was established in 1776 that is called the law of the land. Anytime corruption can be investigated by a deliberative body of officials it is not a distraction nor a waste of time, as the exercise is perhaps even more important than the actual act. Accountability to the citizen of their public officials is the paramount issue here not whether or not it is a possibility that it actually happen. It must be hammered over and over again so the sleepy public will get it.

Corruption is being investigated by a deliberative body even as we speak. Both houses of Congress are involved in shedding light on the activities of this rancid administration. Normally (Pre-Bush), before someone is indicted, a thorough investigation is held (hearings) and the results of that investigation are taken before a Grand Jury (The full House of Representatives) to determine whether an indictment should be forthcoming (Impeachment).
Due to the calculated sloth of the previous Congress, the major corruption of our government was not disclosed in a public forum. Because of that, I doubt if you can find a single reputable poll which shows the majority of Americans favor impeachment, much less multiple polls which would insure each poll's accuracy. Thus, at this time, there is no hue and cry for such an activity and until the public becomes aware of the scope of this administrations transgressions there won't be one. Thus, Glenn (and others) are correct in their tactic of exposing the media's coziness and forcing a more responsive media. What people who read and participate in on-line forums forget sometimes, is that not all (or even a majority) of Americans participate in such things and are thus relatively uneducated in the petty or major transgressions of the body politic until such time as those violations of our Constitution affect them personally. That's Job One. Educate the public. Hell's Bells, the current Congress couldn't even get a stinkin Vote of No Confidence of the AG through the process, how in the world do people think an impeachment of the President would fare better?
Declaring the opening of impeachment hearings at this date would open the process up to claims of politization and muck up the education process. If you will remember the Nixon era, the House did not take up Articles of Impeachment until the very last moment and then only when it was assured they would not only pass the House, but that the resultant Bill of Impeachment would be acted upon by the Senate in a favorable manner. When that time came, Nixon resigned. The Watergate era lasted about 2 years, if I recall. While the current Administration's antics have gone on for much longer than that (as did Nixon's), it's only been about 6 months that most of them have received any attention at all and even those items are not generally known to the public because of the failings of the traditional media. Next year, Congress will be up to its ass in reelection doings - not a favorable time for holding "partisan" impeachment hearings even if they are as justified as you and I believe. They would be written off as merely political and would probably fail to clear the Senate, but, more importantly, they would fail to prove to the People that they were necessary to safeguard our Republic. In short, the timing is bad.
We have a saying down here in Louisiana. It goes something like: "When you're is up to your ass in alligators, it's hard to remember that the first thing you need to do is drain the swamp."
Well, we're up to our ass in alligators and we need to start draining that swamp. The way to do that is through hearings and the way to route the water is through the press for they are the pumps. Thus, we've got to get the press to start pumping water in the right direction before we can do anything about the alligators.
The way to get the press to pump is to put pressure on them to do their job.
Once that's done, the People will take care of getting rid of the alligators (of both parties).

I'm not trying to pick a fight here....just explaining my personal view(s) on what's going on.
Please forgive typos. It's early.
happened to CNN's Michael Ware?
One day, he was crucifying the administration with his truthfull and expansive reports from Baghdad, the next he isn't heard from again. I have an idea that he would have had a field day with this alQaeda R Us crapola.
