"I think Barack knows that flying back to D.C. would just be another show without any real legislative meaning. I would only judge him on not returning if his return would make a difference. Biden has been a long-rime buddy of Dodd and participated in the preparation of the original FISA bill. If he thought he could change the script, you would not find him in Iowa."

I'm afraid that although I generally agree with you, my friend, on this issue I cannot. Obama and Clinton are both being paid to represent their respective constituents in the United States Senate. IOW, it is their JOB to be in the Senate when it is in session.

Whatever political gains they may acheive by staying in Iowa doing their own business pales in comparison to what they are allowing to happen in Washington. Even if their participation would not change the end result, they have a duty to at least attend the session and offer whatever support they are able.

I'm currently listening to Cornyn speaking on the floor of the Senate and I'm about ready to toss my lunch. He's asking the American people to bend over and spread their cheeks while trusting him and the likes of him to protect us.

    This is sickening.

"I'm pretty sure it's not the court's job to determine who DESERVES immunity. It's the lawmakers job. They make the rule, they decide who it applies to."

and I'm pretty sure you're an idiot.

The issue before the courts is based upon the law as it was at the time these telecons took it upon themselves to possibly violate the law.

It is most certainly up to the courts to determine whether they acted in accordance with the law, at the time, or not.

Look up the word "retroactive" and you'll (maybe) understand why your buddies are buckling for their dust today and asking that the law be changed "retroactively".

    Your brainfart inspired many.

Much has been said and much will be said about where we go from here.

May I suggest that we take a lesson from WWII, specifically the decapitation of the Japanese war effort when we consciously assassinated Adm. Yamamoto and thus denied Japan its most brilliant strategist.

It's time to take down Sen. Reid and move him to a position more appropriate for his skills and allegiances.

I propose that the Democratic party be persuaded to change its Senate leadership prior to the opening of the Congress in 2008. I am not sure whether its normal to hold elections each year or whether these elections are held only every other year but it's certainly possible that if enough pressure is applied, such a change can be made.

Pressure, in this case, must be both immediate and precisely aimed at those Senators who will have to run on the success or failure of the Democratic leadership in 2008. Thus, I would suggest that we contact ALL Democratic Senators who will be running for office in 2008 and let them know what needs to be done. They are:

    Pryor - Arkansas

    Durbin - Illinois

    Harkin - Iowa

    Landrieu - Louisiana

    Kerry - Massachusetts

    Levin - Michigan

    Baucus - Montana

    Lautenberg - New Jersey

    Reed - Rhode Island

    Johnson -

    Rockefeller

It's time to take down Sen. Reid and move him to a position more appropriate for his skills and allegiances. I would suggest that appointment as Chairman of the Senate Cloakroom Committee, or perhaps a position running the page dormitory would be an excellent idea.

    Rockefeller - West Virginia

Once these people have been contacted, we can work on those up for re-election in 2010.

It is my belief that it will be mandatory for Reid to be gone if the Democrats have any chance at making the changes necessary and it should be very apparent that the success or failure of the next President will be dependent upon having good leadership in the Senate.

It also wouldn't hurt that a concerted effort be made on behalf of Senator Dodd.
