Devil's advocate
[Read the article: The sad, sorry state of Joe Lieberman]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm a former Connecticut voter who sadly remembers the day the voters first chose Lieberman over Weicker (thus trading a liberal Republican for a conservative Democrat). But you're stretching your argument a little thin here. You keep saying that the "Connecticut voters" have chosen Lamont. Well, not all of them: just the registered Democrats. When it comes down to what all of Connecticut's voters think, there's a very good chance that they'll still pick Lieberman. Given his track record, he's likely to draw more votes away from the Republican candidate than Lamont, but the latest polls show him winning handily in a three-way (or else you wouldn't be so outraged, eh?).
Don't get me wrong -- I think Lieberman is appalling, and hope that Lamont wins. But I wouldn't count on it. And if he loses to Lieberman in the long run, it will be because that's what Connecticut voters want.

Two races in Jersey?
[Read the article: Exit polls? A big night for Democrats, if you think they're real]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]So, the Dems are leading and trailing in New Jersey? That's a neat trick!

insert lame pun about mountains and molehills here
[Read the article: Big breasts for dummies]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Let me see if I have this straight: you open by refering to these big-breasted mannequins as "a mirror of current beauty and fashion"; the writer goes on to find that only a handful of companies manufacture said mannequins; then she finds that only a handful of stores are using them; she concludes that despite her intital fears, they're really harmless compared to the menace of celebrity-inspired mannequins.
I understand that there's not as much actual news to report on during the holidays, but does that really justify this crap?

Two countries divided by the same language
[Read the article: Not exactly what we were thinking]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The writer's confusion stems from the fact that what we call "conservative" in this country, the English (and really, most of the rest of the world) call "liberal". At least as far as fiscal policy, and to some degree foreign policy. So what we call neoconservative, they call neoliberal. And always have. And do to this day.
Does the Washington Post have anyone editing these folks?

the family that shoots together....
[Read the article: "You have to know when to say enough is enough"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]My stepfather told my mother he'll shoot his son (who's in the National Guard) himself before seeing him get sent back to Iraq for a second tour. I just hope he isn't put in a position to put his pistol where his mouth is....

lies, damned lies, and statistics
[Read the article: "You have to know when to say enough is enough"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]...illegal immigrants kill more americans every year (crime, drunk driving, etc) than the amount killed in Iraq, sounds like this fellow would be safer over there.
Wow, what an astute observation. I mean think about it: according to MADD, almost 18,000 Americans were killed by drunk drivers in America in 2006; and then there are the 22,000 Americans between the ages of 25 and 44 that commit suicide every year. Those are both way more than the number of Americans that died in Iraq last year!
If those statistics make you feel like you'd be safer in Iraq, please go ahead and enlist. Or you could just stay home and listen to Rush Limbaugh...

Scraping the barrel here...
[Read the article: Outer space or spaced out?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]So let me see if I get this straight: a presidential campaign didn't drop everything to respond to your questions about Shirley MacLaine's allegations that the candidate received telepathic directions from a UFO, so you assume it's true? I'd expect this from some tool like Drudge, but I'd actually come to hold this blog to a higher standard than that. My mistake.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]A-ha....when I heard this on the news last night, I was surprised that it wasn't common knowledge, but couldn't remember where I'd heard about it. Thanks for reminding me why I subscribe to this website.
