[Read more letters about this article: Here]I think if you go back and look with an open mind you will see that you were more vituperative than I.
Where in my post did you see me claim that authoritarians are solely on the right? I dislike the Democrats and despise the Republicans.
You lay the divisions in our society at the feet of the boomers and yet there have always been divisions. Let's not forget that those divisions came to open and bitter warfare in the nineteenth century and hope that they do not reach that point again.
Look at your chosen candidate with a different perspective and you will see that he is lying about his "faith". Obama is just another politician who will say anything to reach a position of power. His song is a little more melodious than most but the tune is basically the same.
Go back and survey the thread, not a single poster would say that they had seen a more overtly religious political ad ever despite my asking the question twice. Does that not give you pause?
Those who use religion to sway people's minds are manipulating emotions, something which leads me to distrust them. As soon as emotions come into play rational thought and analysis are set aside. Good decisions are seldom made while in the grip of strong emotion.
More than fifteen percent of the population of the US is non religious/atheist or agnostic and yet we are never heard and our views and concerns are totally ignored if not ridiculed.
Name me another minority of the same size that has no political representation.

Something that could be done very quickly with current vehicles..
[Read the article: The car of the future is here]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The first thing is an absolute ban on manufacturers releasing horsepower numbers for their cars.. An amazing number of people buy cars based on the horsepower rating and engines built for high horsepower invariably turn at high rpm to make that horsepower. High rpm engines do not produce torque as efficiently at low rpm as engines designed for low rpms. Internal engine friction climbs rapidly with engine rpm, low rpm engines are more efficient for this reason as well as several others that I don't have time to go into now.
Most people never use the full horsepower potential of the cars they buy anyway.. It is low rpm torque which gives the real feeling of acceleration at anything less than near full throttle. To most people, engines built for low rpm torque will actually feel faster than the high rpm horsepower engine.
Free manufacturers from having to play the horsepower arms race and they can build even more efficient cars that will be more fun to drive for most people.
Mandate a fuel mile per gallon gauge in every vehicle that is on top of the dashboard and cannot be turned off. Both average and instantaneous mileage should be displayed with both analog and digital gauges for both. It's amazing how much more aware you become of the efficiency of your vehicle when it is displayed right in front of you.
Heavy trucks almost universally use turbocharged diesels, the reason for this is that the turbocharger reuses some of the waste heat going out the tail pipe and increases overall engine efficiency. Someone mentioned locomotives with diesels driving generators that drive motors on the wheels, those diesels use turbochargers for increased efficiency.
Diesels are already more efficient than gasoline engines for a couple of technical reasons and adding turbocharging only increases the efficiency advantage of the diesel.
A turbodiesel hybrid would be the way to go for maximum efficiency in a personal vehicle that does not have to be plugged into the grid. Combine that with plug in capability and you could reach awesome efficiency numbers.
Compressed air is a decent idea for temporary energy capture from braking to reuse as accelerative capability after the stop sign or red light. However, compressing air heats it up to a considerable degree and once the heat from that compression dissipates, you lose all that energy since the air pressure drops in concert with the temperature drop. Unless the tank is heavily insulated compressed air is not a good choice for long term energy storage.

Several times now on this thread..
[Read the article: Barack Obama: "Committed Christian -- Called to Bring Change"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I have unequivocally stated that Obama is *NOT* a Christian and is lying about what he claims is the bedrock of his life, his "faith".
Not one single poster, Obamaphile or otherwise, has addressed my point, not even to call me names.
The entire ad campaign we are discussing here is a gigantic, blatant, disgusting lie designed to emotionally manipulate the public.
It is curious that physical courage should be so common in the world and moral courage so rare. -Mark Twain
Is there one single person here that can show an iota of moral courage and either agree or disagree with me?
What do you see when you look in the mirror?

You are wrong.

Don't *tell* me..
*Show* me.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]The truth is painful, is it not?
Barack Obama blatantly disregards the single most explicit command that the Christ gave in regards to how you treat your fellow man. Treat them as you would wish to be treated yourself.
That is not the behavior of a Christian.

Christ's main message on human relations.
True or false?
