[Read more letters about this article: Here]Frankly, you're just falling for Glenn's unsubstantiated ruse. This advert is not threatening to all but the politically myopic, going as it does with Obama's clearly left-wing voting record and platform, to say nothing of the fact that Obama has Muslim grandparents for heavens sake. And now the atheists are up in arms at the latest example of unwitting humor posing as critique of Senator Obama.
I *am* an atheist, living in the buckle of the Bible Belt.. I know all about religious discrimination from a first hand perspective. I've never had a problem with vandalism on my vehicle.. Except for a four month period when I put a 'darwin fish' on my truck.. It was keyed thrice in that time. Took the 'darwin fish' off, no more vandalism.
My lifetime of experience has taught me that the more loudly they proclaim their "Christianity" the more tightly I should clutch my wallet.
Let me know when Obama goes to the Senate and stands up against the FISA bill..

[Read more letters about this article: Here]As to excesses? It was probably drug use, promiscuity and the rest that are typical of young people but not necessarily a great way to comport oneself into adulthood.
So the Vietnam war was not an "excess" but Woodstock was, right?
Killing two million people is OK but having a good time with almost no violence is not..
Thanks for confirming my suspicions that Obama was taking another slap at the Dirty Fuckin' Hippies.
Just wondering, do you ever drink alcoholic beverages?
If so then you are a "drug user".

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Charisma, being able to inspire people, having enough communications ability that people will listen to you -- it's a rare thing.
I'm an atheist who went to Bible study classes with a neighbor a few years ago.. We all took turns reading aloud, I read the King James version cold and was told I had one of the best reading voices they had heard.
All you really have to do to get people to listen is flatter them and tell them what they want to hear, use a few coded phrases..
Don Henley said it better than I can.. This piece is about Reagan, from "Little Tin God"
The cowboy's name was "Jingo"
And he knew that there was trouble
So in a blaze of glory
He rode out of the west
No one was ever certain
What it was that he was sayin'
But they loved it when he told them
They were better than the rest

Since I got no replies the last time I'm going to ask again..

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Has anyone ever seen a more explicitly religious political ad than the one Glenn put in his post?
If not then we can safely assume that Obama was pandering.

Two more questions..
[Read the article: Barack Obama: "Committed Christian -- Called to Bring Change"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Does anyone think that Obama is *not* being a hypocrite regarding his position on the drug war?
Does anyone disagree with the statement that the sin the Christ most often and vociferously denounced was that of hypocrisy?

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Obama IS INDEED a committed Christian
Will you honestly answer my two questions below?

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Yes Obama is probably a hypocrite concerning the drug war and Jesus railed almost exclusively against hypocricy.
So Obama isn't really a Christian at all, he does not follow the words of Jesus the Christ in the one thing that anyone of intelligence who reads His words knows that He deemed most important.
That is the point I wished to make.
Obama is a liar about the thing he claims is most central to his life.
How can we trust him about anything else?

[Read more letters about this article: Here]You seized on a point about the excesses of the 60s and conveniently OMITTED reference I made to his statements about baby boomers holding their generational pissing contest on the national stage for 40 long, fucking years.
I took your answer to my question and made the point I wished to make.
It's not a generational pissing contest, it is a pissing contest between authoritarians who wish for everyone to march in lockstep to their particular drummer and those who do not wish to march to anyone's drummer but their own. It will never change, we will always be fighting this battle because there will always be authoritarians and there will always be those who do not wish to be told what to do by dimwitted fools who can't even run their own lives properly and yet wish to run those of everyone else.
You go ahead and join hands with the Christianists, I have have a long history with them and they will invariably stab you in the back as soon as they think they can get away with it.
By the way, I'm older than you are..

[Read more letters about this article: Here]It's a long road and it isn't easy, but simply declaring a certain Candidate as unacceptable because they're willing to incarcerate dopers is pretty much a fools errand. They're ALL willing to incarcerate dopers if they think that's what the public wants.
Two words.
Kucinich.
Paul.
