What lessons have we not learned? Who is failing these people? Or is homelessness an unavoidable byproduct of war, of young men and women who devote themselves to serving their country and then see things no man or woman should?

To anyone who has much awareness of history and military history it was perfectly obvious by 9/12/2001 that this was going to happen.

For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Chuck him out, the brute!"

But it's "Saviour of 'is country," when the guns begin to shoot;

An' it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' anything you please;

But Tommy ain't a bloomin' fool - you bet that Tommy sees!

-Rudyard Kipling

My father was a big Kipling fan and I had read a lot of his works fairly early on.. In fact _Stalky & Co_ was one of my favorite books for quite a while.

excessive desire to acquire or possess more (especially more material wealth) than one needs or deserves

avarice: reprehensible acquisitiveness; insatiable desire for wealth (personified as one of the deadly sins)

What is "excessive" desire?

What is "reprehensible" acquisitiveness?

As we have agreed that everyone is, according to your definition ‘greedy,’ what is excessive ‘harm,’ what is excessive ‘deliberateness?’

Show me where I mentioned "excessive" anything.

Quotes please.

Prostitutes can be defined as screwed up by virtue of the fact that they are risking their lives for $25 an hour.

Do you have any idea how dangerous a lot of construction jobs (done mostly by men) are?

A lot of construction workers risk their lives for far less than $25 an hour and have to pay taxes on top of it.

I've seen a guy die right in front of me when he fell four feet off a scaffold, landed on the back of his head on a concrete floor and there were brains leaking out.

Alive one second, dead the next.

He was an illegal making about $5 an hour.

Are all construction workers "screwed up" because they don't work in a nice, safe, air conditioned office?

And I won't even get into soldiers and Marines who risk their lives for way less than $25 an hour.. I guess in your mind they are "screwed up" too.

You have no idea how many good, hard working people you just insulted with that idiotic comment.

With prostitution, you are selling not your body, but a process of your body that either God or evolution designed TO MAKE MORE HUMANS.

No more so and probably less than a surrogate mother.

Should that be made illegal also?

You have already admitted that you definition does not do this, my point now is that it gets us no closer to being able to, so why bother redefining the word?

The person who tries his best to act ethically even while amassing a fortune does not have a high level of greed.

The person who shoots a convenience store clerk while holding them up for $20 has a very high level of greed.

The conventional definition of greed would call the person amassing a fortune while trying to maintain his ethics greedy. Conversely, the convenience store bandit would not be considered greedy according to the conventional definition.

With my definition it is not how much you accumulate that defines you level of greed rather it is how you go about accumulating that money or power.

What I am concerned about is how people go about making their money, not how much they make.

This is the reason Boortz never replied to my post, he knew damn well that by my definition he was quite far up up the greed scale since his schtick causes measurable harm to others and he knowingly and deliberately does it.

Maybe you won't see "progressives" who now complain about the police state tactics of Bush start to call people on the right who are concerned about such things under a Dem President- "crazy militia members" and "paranoid government haters."

But, from my experience- you are setting yourself up for a shock.

I agree, there are a lot of progressives who will tolerate from their own leaders what they will not from those of the other party.

I'm not sure however that there are as big a percentage of progressives who act in this hypocritical fashion as there are conservatives.

There was plenty that Clinton did that I didn't like but his sexual antics were the least of my complaints while I get the impression that conservatives found his sexual behavior to be their main complaint.

You have to admit that what Bush hath wrought upon the US is megaparsecs beyond any evil that Clinton did.. And yet I still don't hear all that much complaining from conservatives.

I've been kicked off Democratic Undergound more times than I can recall under various noms de keyboard.

They aren't as cultlike as the Freepers are now but they damn sure don't like any real principled and vigorous dissent from their particular worldview.
