I thought I'd share this..
[Read the article: The role of political reporters]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I put this video collage together about six months ago and have shared it via email with some friends. They all tell me to spread it around so I have decided to do so.
Warning, there is some pretty gut wrenching stuff here, my wife was in tears after about thirty seconds of the second video.
To get the full effect, watch 'em in order and turn it up.
It's a little known fact that John Kay as a child escaped from behind the Iron Curtain with his parents.

Why someone might run for president?
[Read the article: Stay classy, John Edwards ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm not saying this applies to any specific candidate, but it certainly applies to some:
All governments suffer a recurring problem: Power attracts pathological personalities. It is not that power corrupts but that it is magnetic to the corruptible. Such people have a tendency to become drunk on violence, a condition to which they are quickly addicted. -Frank Herbert

I'm sure young Obama would have greatly benefited from a police record., or even better a prison term.
[Read the article: Obama's double magic]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]That is what Obama the candidate wishes on Obama the teen/young adult.
One freakin' third of black men in this country will end up in prison during their lifetime and Obama wants to continue that.
To be fair, so do Edwards, Clinton and all other Democratic candidates other than Kucinich.
Liberals love to blame Nader for the Y2K election loss.. It wasn't Nader, it was the fact that "liberals", like Obama, Edwards and Clinton support policies that bar a huge percentage of the black electorate from the voting booth.
"Hope" my bony, fish-belly white ass..

[Read the article: The role of political reporters]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The salient difference between the 1930's and now, of course, is that we now possess the technology to destroy ourselves to the last person,
I don't think this is so.. We certainly have the capability to kill off 98+% of the population, but humans are like rats, very difficult to eradicate completely.
On the other hand you may be right.. Homo Neanderthalensis had a larger brain than sapiens sapiens and they are gone. I suppose that it could have gone the other way if the cards were dealt a little differently.
The big problem as I see it is that if we do manage to send ourselves back to the neolithic then we may not be able to climb back up to civilization again. The easily obtainable resources have been squandered.
There will be readily available source of energy to create an industrial revolution again, the oil will be gone, as will the coal.

[Read the article: The role of political reporters]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]These guys have profit motives at scales where political responsibility is obsoleted and any human becomes disposable.
I've always had a problem understanding why people are perfectly willing to accept the idea that a sociopath will kill you for a pair of tennis shoes and yet balk at accepting that another sociopath will kill you for a billion dollars.
The only difference is one of degree, not of kind.

[Read the article: Chris Matthews is right ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]People can wean themselves from the glass teat if they actually want to.
I quit watching TV shortly after 9/11.. I found I was spending more time shouting at it than anything else.
Same thing with the radio. Now I burn MP3s on a rewritable CD and listen to music that way.. I gave up on radio after even the FM jocks starting touting right wing politics.
When I happen to catch TV now, I'm nauseated by the triviality and downright vacuousness of it.

[Read the article: Chris Matthews is right ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I won't belabor the point but I will say this: the art of argumentation through the effective use of reasoning is all but lost in our political landscape of propoganda and soundbites and absolutely nonexistent in our mainstream media, but it is resurgent in the great democratic tool of the internet.
Finding people IRL who are interested in argumentation through the effective use of reasoning is all but impossible.
Where else are ya' gonna go but teh intertoobz?
Even here if the position you wish to argue is sufficiently unpopular or embarrassing mostly you get insults and ad hominem arguments.

[Read the article: Chris Matthews is right ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The reporters there, what a smug, self-satisfied, silly pack of jackasses they were. The conversations I had with them were occasionally jaw-dropping; their inability to follow even the simplest trails of logic and facts would sometimes leave me speechless.
Most people can't think, most of the remainder won't think, the small fraction who do think mostly can't do it very well. The extremely tiny fraction who think regularly, accurately, creatively, and without self-delusion- in the long run these are the only people who count... -Heinlein
It's not just reporters, it's damn near everyone.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Since nuclear weapons could mean the end of life on earth I suppose any distinctions are rendered moot with that example.
Nuclear weapons won't end life on earth.
The Chicxulub impact didn't end life on earth and it was many orders of magnitude greater than all the nuclear weapons on the planet exploded at once.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]When one dares to shift the paradigms with truth it creates such angst and realted discord..
Heh...
Tell me about it..
Oh, BTW.. If you use Firefox as a browser it has a built in spell checker for any text box you fill out. I'm a pretty good speller anyway but I do like having a backup.
Just be careful that you proofread carefully to make sure you do not any words out. ;-)
Not to mention that Firefox is considerably more secure than Internet Exploder.

Can you tell me how what women are taught makes them want sex?
[Read the article: Chris Matthews is right ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm reminded of the old joke about what food completely eliminates a woman's desire for sex.

Wedding cake..
Seriously, we all want sex since a zygote is simply a gamete's means of producing more gametes.
