Original article: How to run good

NASCAR? Uh, no thanks.

First, my apologies are offered in advance to those who identified themselves as Democrats, liberals & NASCAR fans. My experience suggests that at any given NASCAR event one would not be able to find enough people who fit that description to field a football (soccer) side. I have met well-educated, well-spoken, intelligent NASCAR fans, but those who generally conform to the stereotype overwhelmingly outnumber them.

And that goes to the heart of my rant. Mr. MacGregor suggests that this is a demographic block of voters somehow up for grabs because Buschco has lost popularity, as reflected in a string of national opinion polls. Perhaps he is right but I have deep reservations because, there is no delicate way to put this, of the NASCAR fans I know. My guess is that if this poll were taken at and in a NASCAR event then the results would reflect a level of popularity that defies logic and reason. As such, it would be a waste of time and money to court this constituency. Bubba is owned by the GOP fear mongers and the mawkish, knee-jerk patriotic sentimentality of the NASCAR experience fills a niche in his life that has been empty since cross burning became widely discouraged.

Mr. MacGregor's point that Democrats need to grow a spine is well taken, but emulating and courting the NASCAR crowd is not a strategy for success. Why would they vote Republican Lite (Joe Lieberman, Hillary Clinton) when they can get the genuine article? Maybe the sad reality of electoral politics is that there are more of “them” than there are of “us”. There is also a big difference between getting their vote and keeping it. They may actually expect you to keep that campaign promise.

This is not a crowd who seem to be overly distressed at the illegal and fundamentally Un-American behaviour of the Buschco administration (pick a scandal, any scandal. yawn, pass the pork rinds). As a veteran, I am appalled that the population who provide a substantial chunk of our volunteer forces are the least concerned by criminal incompetence of Rummy’s DoD. They don’t seem to care that the Constitution is being shredded before our eyes, as long as they don’t touch the Sacred Second, because we are teaching those who had nothing to do with September 11 a lesson in hillbilly justice.

All that's missing is the brown shirt and black tie. NASCAR Uber Alles!

Reality Based?

Dear Reality Based Lefty,

What do you mean that over 35's have a problem with porn? You cheeky little git. Don't know what reality YOU live in. Try talking to some crusties who aren't your parents.

Regards.

Original article: Impeach Bush

GK vs BHL

Mr. Keillor continues his sniping at Bernard-Henri Levy, presumably to demonstrate how much he loves America. "A book full of arrogant stupidity" is how GK described American Vertigo, without ever naming either the book or the author. This seems odd, given the topic we are discussing.

The America I know is much closer to the freak show (Buscho & Cheniburton, anyone?) described by BHL than the Never Never Land that is Lake Wobegon. Of course, most Americans would rather drink the maple syrup at the Chatterbox Cafe than read a Frenchman's letter to his mistress (as he described America), where he says that although he loves her she has fat thighs. All of which is too bad, because like GK I can remember a time when the US was the circus and not the sideshow.

As others have already asked, after Impeachment then what? George W. Bush is not an anomaly, but the product of decades of political action. After the chimporer has been deposed, what do you do with the RedState goobers that are his fan base? This does not invalidate their creeping fascism but allows them the polite fiction that they chose the "wrong guy". Next time they might find the "right guy" and when that happens it will be due in great part to the failure of the Democratic Party, a collaboration through incompetence scenario.

I would be delighted to see buschco impeached, preferably prior to the introduction of martial law. I just don't see it happening with a Senate full of Quislings.

Then what?

So the "pundits" are discussing impeachment? A few years too late, for my money. Maybe too late, period. Let's indulge in the fantasy that somewhere, somehow, articles of impeachment would be drawn up. Continue the fantasy that dumbya is expelled in disgrace, perhaps even imprisoned. Then what?

I'm afraid the damage has been done. The chimporer's appointments to the Supreme Court will haunt us for decades. We have war without end, for the benefit of our patriotic defence contractors. We have a Senate where only 10 members voted against the extension of the PATRIOT Act. Getting rid of buschco is going to fix this????

Pardon me if I save my fantasies for something useful such as, I don't know, porn.
