So, . . .

. . . your mom kicked you out of the basement?

How dare they refuse to live in squalor as we blog from coffeeshops. -- Smithers release the hounds

And unless you've got a gig with some minor league version of Pajama Media (can one even go lower?), you're not blogging but merely commenting.

There are no snail darters in the Hudson.

If there were, it would be considered an invasive species as it's not native to that part of the country.

I remember fondly the THREE decade fight to get the west side highway built in Manhattan, an effort that eventually failed because of a tiny fish called the snail darter and its threaten species status. -- Smithers release the hounds

Furthermore, most people who live in Manhattan don't even want a west side highway.

Why in the world was this an editor's choice letter?

Just the exterior shots, . . .

. . . not including the hedge/maze. That and all the interiors, as I recall, were shot at the Bretton Woods Hotel and at locations in the U.K.

Gingrich: Obama needs to be more bipartisan

No. Gingrich needs to go Cheney himself.

Friday, February 6, 2009 12:37 PM

So?

The former House speaker warns Obama "is in real danger of becoming Jimmy Carter instead of Ronald Reagan."

Why would he want to be anything like Reagan? After Shrub, he's been the worst president in the last 50 years.

Actually, . . .

. . . none of us is winning on the stimulus package. It's a piece of crap as it does next to nothing to move us away from an economy tethered to oil.

Tough being green. In this country anyway.

I can't top this.

When....

will we stop humoring the ignorant, poorly educated white trash trailer monkeys in this country, and start treating them with the contempt they deserve. Why on Earth would Barack Obama sit down with Sean Hannity to explain anything? What kind of brain dead moron thinks this suggestion is legitimate in any way shape or form?

I don't believe a word of this.

"Trailer trash," regardless of how long they've been in NYC, don't write passages like this.

So in New York, I saw people that not only had jobs, but they were in school at the same time and they still had a social life ... they juggled. That to me was so awe-inspiring. How do people do this? And I sort of had this moment of epiphany, like, to try to be a better person.

People like "Shone" don't have epiphanies because they don't even know what they are.

Physically, yes.

But for record-keeping purposes, McCain was born in a U.S. military hospital to American parents. Therefore, it doesn't really matter where he was born. He was a U.S. citizen by parentage. Furthermore, the U.S. still claimed sovereignty over the canal zone in those days.

Not quite the same thing as aliens, legal or otherwise, coming here to have children for the citizenship benefit. Oh no, our constitution doesn't need revising at all. But I digress.

**John McCain was born outside the US. You know this, yes?

I'm less than thrilled right now with our new president.

However, had anyone tried to heckle or pester Shrub when he was president or even McCain on the stump, they would have been removed almost immediately from the function. If for no other reason than this, he deserves some patience (even if his economic team is full of shit and the stimulus package is tied to the "old economy.")

Though I would have booed with the audience, I have to give Obama credit for treating these crazy Republican ladies with actual decency, like a normal human being should be treated. He calmed the audience and answered the question politely and with a touch of humor. He didn't yell or give out any sarcasm. He did as a president should, cool and professional. Republicans on capitol hill should really look at themselves when they fault others for lack of bipartisanship. They are the ones in denial and behaving like assholes. -- Utena H

Off topic, but I've often wondered since so many red state . . .

. . . citizens hate government as to why so many red states have dozens and dozens of counties? Where's the efficiency in, Indian's case, of having 92 county governments? You think they'd favor consolidation to save money and avoid unnecessary duplication of services.

What would you rather have him do, . . .

. . . ignore public opinion with complete contempt like Shrubco did or poll everything every day like Clinton did?

Why is he still campaigning? I don't get this. I hope he doesn't do this his whole presidency. -- Brian - Seattle

He's not campaigning. He's taking policy to the people in states/regions where he may not be getting congressional support. The Rethugs are out of power and out of touch. However, there are enough of the useless shits in the senate to cause legislative problems. If he can shame these idiots locally, he has a better chance of getting what he wants done in both the short and the long run. He may even have to do this in some Dem districts.

Cue "Won't Get Fooled Again."

"Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss?"

Jesus H. Christ. It's beginning to look as if the only change Obama has brought to Washington is names on the doors, and even a lot of these may have been in storage some place.

Yes. I've find it rather curious that the primary . . .

. . . enabler of this mess, the ratings agencies, seem to have gotten off Scott free. When will they be investigated and penalized?

In securitizing mortgages and other loans and in bundling mortgages into various tranches and mixing sub prime loans in with prime ones, the bankers effectively lied to those investors, like pension funds, who thought they were buying triple A investments. The bankers who did this, as well as the rating agencies like Moodys who falsely rated these investments as AAA, committed fraud and, far from being given billions in bailout money to fund executive bonuses, should be heading to jail. -- jared2
