You rest, Sweetie

Maureen, honey, it's time to put your curlers in. You clearly need your beauty rest. Others smarter and less co-opted than you can take over from here. Don't worry; as Scarlett said, "Tomorrow id another day."

Keep on fighting the good fight, and those wingnut welfare checks will keep you keeping on.

From "Singing in the Rain, "I am a shimmering, shining star, in the cinema firmament... says so right here."

UT may not be the cinema, but you still qualify.

Do you also make more money than Calvin Coolidge, put together? You mentioned that earlier.

G'Night, Sweetie.

Hit the Books, Y'all...

The absolutely stupidest, most arrogant and clueless idiot ever to show up at UT is now threatening not to return unless we all get our acts together, pronto. Dang; we've only got about 12 hours to read whole libraries, Emily Post, and God knows what all else to be worthy, and I for one am damn near quaking in my lame' slippers.

Without drastic self-improvement on all of our parts, the self-anointed one may not grace us with her heralded return, and then where would we be?

Clearly, lots of people here are all but clueless about the obvious parallels between Obama and Hitler... time to read up.

Worse, some of us haven't figured out that we "liberals" are sorely lacking in manners, and have poor vocabularies, to boot. My heavens.. can you get a student loan on a Saturday night?

Rarely have I felt so inadequate, and not just because I'm not an heiress.

I'm about to whip out my MasteCard, at long last, and get Rosetta Stone, just so I can speak English sufficiently to not have to cower before the towering O'Donnell, who shows us all to be such mental midgets, and foul-mouthed, at that.

And I'd planned on such a relaxing weekend..

War, For Fun and Profit

I noticed a poster, Jay Gold, rather retardedly criticizing Biden for being wrongly (! )against the first Gulf War. Before this slips down the MCI memory hole, I'd like to point out that the first Gulf War, which was sold with the same kind of deceptions and BS, and for the same reasons (i.e, making a failed, pussy Bush look manly) was one of the main causes of 9/11 and our recent unpleasantness. Those smart enough to oppose that war, which was nothing more than a trade show to vanquish the feared Peace Dividend (covertly) and the Vietnam Syndome (loudly and explicitly) were right. Got it?

Here in Portland, I attended the largest peace rally in the US against that war, and had my lovely hometown labeled "Little Beirut" for it. Senator Mark Hatfield stalled the authorization in the Senate, and the public was deeply, and wisely, ambivalent about it. That war brought forth the Orwellian state we now enjoy, with "embedded" reporters, "support the troops" smackdowns, and all the rigaramarole that is the cause of the US's current impotence and bankruptcy, moral and otherwise.

For Biden to have been against that war may well be the the best argument of all for his intelligence and prescience.

Hatfield, sadly, in his doddering and corrupt old age, tossed aside his lifelong skepticism about militarism, and wrote a bonkers and absurd Op/Ed for the Oregonian, endorsing the Second Iraq War, and promptly fell down a flight of stairs and was never heard from again.

Karma works in strange ways, but I don't think Biden has anything to fear from it.

Glass Houses

This pussyfooting around about the rank hypocrisy and sociopathic ambition of the Republicans in general, and Caribou Barbie in particular, has got to stop.

This craven and and vile opportunist, an unwed teenage mother herself, has spawned another generation of similarly dissolute and uncaring offspring, exactly like the Welfare Queens of years gone by, and because she is a superstitious, bonkers, authoritarian like her followers, loudly claims she deserves a pass for it. She doesn't. How did that home-schooling and abstinence only work out for you, Ms. 2nd Runner-up Pit Bull?

Any mother, liberal or conservative, would be rightly ashamed and deeply questioning of her parenting and career choices at a time like this, and would be rightly protective of her daughter's privacy.... Quite the opposite of Gov. (!) Palin's grasping and selfish response.

Of course, because the fainting couches of the MSM are already littered with supine corpses over the fact that anyone has dared to even vaguely allude to this situation, such matters must (unfairly, I think...) be handled delicately.

But why shouldn't a Democratic operative say, in sorrow rather than derision, "While we all understand the pain and heartache that must come with a parent's failure to instill her values in her children, perhaps it's time to have an open, honest, discussion about teen sexuality, and its inevitable consequences, with an eye toward preventing the kind of outcomes through which the Palin family is obviously suffering."

Teenage shotgun weddings, paraded before the public in an election year, are as tragic and despicable as the rest of the policies Palin and her ilk think we should all embrace, and should be called out for what they are.

The woman is clearly a monster, and an unfit mother. One child, cannon fodder, one knocked up at 17, one Down syndrome, probably exacerbated by the absurd risks she took surrounding his delivery... Do the math.

Imagine if Palin were a Democrat.

Flattery will get you everywhere...

Wabanatta3... After scrambling up the down escalator of comments since I got back in town, never reaching the top, I was finally able to toss a comment on the pile (those righties are collecting some serious checks these days...) and as luck would have it, I was at the right stage between cocktail hour and double vision, for a change.

Glad you noticed...
