[Read the article: Why do conservatives really find the Obama campaign "scary"?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Probably the reason that conservatives find Obama so scary is that, unlike Clinton now or Bush in 2000, he lacks the dynastic, media-fueled "inevitability" that now has become a prerequisite for the presidency. Having been relentlessly hounded by the media with the absurd assumption that holding that office requires some sort of "test," which is absurdly reduced to whether or not some member of your family held it before you, anyone who would be so presumptuous as to seek such an office in his/her own right must be some kind of demagogue or dictator.

One must wonder how we ever got by before such self-entitled dynasies and elitist idiots seized control of our political and journalistic landscape.

One need only consider how new, hopeful, and fresh the Clintons seemed in 1992, and how drearily forced Bush the lesser felt in 2000, to understand this dynamic, and how maniacally resistant the MSM was to this essential truth as they shoved Bush's false victory down our throats, and tried mightily to hound Clinton out of office.

What we face now is the same conundrum; whether we will be forced to accept what we are told, against all evidence, is "inevitable," or whether we will, in the manner of a nominal democracy, choose what what we want.

Hillary, who would have made a fine President, has decided to throw in with the dynasty crowd, thereby making herself a craven enabler and beneficiary of our pathetically corrupt system, and has left Obama standing alone as a real change agent. Sadly, that has worked to her advantage.

OT... Paul Dirks from the last thread... I have a theory about the Seattle-area arsons. The McMansions in question were unsold and unwanted monstrosities from the 2007 "Street of Drerams," and their demise happily coincided with another "eco-terrorist" trial. Ya think insurance and political gain could have been involved?

  • It's remarkable, in a way...

That anybody could be so addled by Limbaugh and O'Rielly, et al"s hogwash that they could proudly declare that, against all evidence, they are "winning votes." Even the dimmest among us can easily see that FISA capitulation is, for its wretched unpopularity, being desperately papered over, while actual Americans are identifying as Democrats in historically unprecedented numbers.

The debacle Bush has left us, along with its sinister totalitarian overtones, has clearly done nothing but make Republicianism about as popular as the clap in a whorehouse. Even the cavingest Dems see this, and have to cloak their complicity like never before.

But the true followers still believe; that's their special privilege.

As liberals, our hearts can only bleed.

WT... I deeply regret not having become acquainted with this Bart person, although his eliminationist triumphalism sounds depressingly familiar. That's the real reason that these RWA's are so bizarrely besotted with the idea of universal surveillance; it's the modern equivalent of "Won't someone rid me of this nettlesome priest?" I'm sure I butchered that quote, but am too lazy and preoccupied to get it exactly.

The gist is, that righties, having been proven wrong so relentlessly, are frothing at the mouth to silence those who have proved them wrong. "My Dad can beat up your Dad," or rather Big Brother can do so, is their only remaining hope.

They have nothing to fear, as they have nothing to hide. They revel in the fact that, given their behavior over these past few years, the only thing they'll be remembered as is a flat head Bush could set his beer on.

Slurping noises never pick up on tape.

It seems that, belatedly, the Dems are finally figuring out that defying Bush is not ony good policy and politics, but also good TV, which is probably more important.

The revulsion of the public becomes more apparent each day; when Karl Rove is mercilessly heckled and ridiculed by a college audience, and Bush's disgracefully inane surprise that gas was approaching four bucks was met with universal disdain, something is indeed in the air.

I guess the shocking part is that the stench reached the clothespinned noses of the House Dems. Apparently the Senate is still duct-taped in.

One wonders how Rockefeller can face himself in the mirror about now; maybe Cheney will invite him on a hunting trip.

Gwendolyn Fairfax dispatched this knotty question with characteristic and enviable aplomb, "We obviously move in different circles. I myself have never seen a spade."

Ms. Pelosi shows us she's read "The Importance of Being Earnest," and learned its lessons, with her tasteful yet devastating response to Bush's latest (yawn) whopper.

While I would have said, "As the last seven disgraceful years amply prove, President Bush's mouth was open. Therefore unless he was having another unfortunate pretzel mishap, he was lying."

Unfortunately, American politics and the righty noise machine don't allow such candor, tempered by humor or not.

Pelosi nailed it, and yet left O'Reilly et al without anything to play for fauxtrage.

Pedinska, what kind of shoes do you think she was wearing?

    Noballs....

Where, exactly, did you get the idea that Bush was opposing Islamic terrorism? Was it the Saudi hand-holding? That brave performance on Sept. 11? Or was it those socks stuffed in his crotch?

You are retarded, and I mean that as no insult to retarded people.
